Things to do in the Caribbean?

I'm going on a cruise in March that hits Key West, Cozumel, Costa Maya, and George Town, Grand Cayman.

I've been to Key West and have a few things in mind as to what I want to do there, but not the other places.

I would like to do a few excursions and definitely see some Mayan ruins, but I'd also like to relax and eat some good food and drink some good drinks.

Can anyone give me some suggestions on what to do? I know snorkeling is good in Cozumel...

I would like names of restaurants/bars, stores, touring companies, whatever you can give me.

A little background info: I am 20 and my boyfriend is 22. We aren't huge partiers, we're more laid back.

Any help would be much appreciated!! Thank you!

Depends on how long you have on each island...but Mayan Ruins is a must. There is also a sweet place called Xel-Ha, which I believe is NEAR the ruins. My husband loved this place. http://www.xel-ha.com/. Our cruise stopped at Playa del Carmen and Cozumel...so we didn't have to divide our time. We also snorkeled in Cozumel. It was part of the bike tour we signed up for. It was another park type place to snorkel, but it wasn't as fun as the ruins and Xel-Ha.

Also in Cozumel, there is a restaurant on the main street, near the water. La Palmeras. I liked it, the cruise ship recommended it. Shopping is nuts on that street. Don't pay asking price!!

Grand Cayman---of course, beautiful beaches...Seven Mile Beach is the most popular. But everything is EXPENSIVE. We are not cheap skates....but I couldn't believe how much things cost there. I have been to GC twice on cruises. We found nothing exciting to do there on your own, after the beach. All there is is expensive shops. We stopped and had margaritas, SO FREAKING EXPENSIVE!!!!! $10-12 a pop. And not even good. The second time we went, we had bad weather and our excursion was cancelled. See what excursion the cruise line has and give it a try.

lay on the beach in the sun and enjoy.

Mr. Outrageous
---Defintiley see the Mayan Ruins.
--When in the Caymans GO TO THE BEACH!!! YOU MUST!! IF not Seven Mile Beach ask your taxi driver [ I remember there being a very beautiful one I'm sorry the name slipped mym ind something Grove I think.. or something Vine..]
--Cozumel : Souvenier shop, go to the waterpark... Beach is a little wavy..

1) You can go horseback riding on the beach. Cozumel is right next to Cancun, and it's not far.

2) Snorkling around Cozumel is WONDERFUL

3) There's a water park there (Cozumel) that has visitor swim with dolphins. It's so much fun. Unfortunately I can't remember the name.

4) Columbian Jewelry is everywhere--great prices for great stuff

5) Haggle in Cancun especially

6) The Mayan ruins are great, but it's a good 4+ hour drive. It'll be REALLY hot and come prepared for a lot of bottled water, sunscreen, and hats.

7) Your cruise will have the excursions marked for you. Unless you are there for more than one day, you're only going to have time for one-two things.

Sometimes just happening into something can be great fun. How about renting a boat or jet ski? maybe you can look to your cruise company to see what you would have time for and what would be available too....

Have fun!!!

Well you should have already got a brochure about each port and the excursions you can take. If not, request on through your cruise company

Parasailing is cool. Or surfing...

I agree 100% with momof3's choice of Xel-Ha. I went there in Aug '06 and loved it. Sad thing was we only spent a few hours there. Try to get an excursion there for the entire day!

The Mayan ruins of Tulum were all right, but not that impressive. All the ruins were roped off because of stupid vandals. Interesting though.

The water, is gorgeous.

Cozumel, has a wonderful flamingo park, you have to pay to get in. They have a tank to swim with dolphins right next to, or may be part of another park, if you like that. There are two ruins on Cozumel you can tour, and you can go to the other side of the island and be on the beach by yourself, where the waves come in. All sand for as far as you can snorkel on that side with nothing to see, but on the other side the snorkeling was wonderful! We rented a scooter from our hotel and had a ball riding it around and around the island. I saw people riding trail horses there too. We stayed 10 days there and had a blast! I haven't been to the other places you are going, but I hope you guys have a great trip! Wish it were me!
