Thinking of moving to San Juan Puerto Rico but not sure about the crime there.? Is it safe?

Just wondered if the crime rate was high and would it be safe to live there. Interested in moving to Old San Juan or the Condado area can anyone tell me if it is high in crime.

I moved to PR 2 years ago and I have never felt safer. I feel more uneasy in places like Atlanta than here. As long as you don't find yourself in areas like La Perla in San Juan, you should be okay.

It's just like any other town that has it's good spots and bad spots. Although we do have crime here, it's mainly for "crimes of passion" and drugs and money. There isn't a lot of random crimes committed on innocent people, if that's what your asking.

Like the person behind me said, major crimes are around places you wouldnt be and the crimes are like any other big cities! People are just RACIST, still this APE go to IRAK to defend their right to speak. You Welcome

I live in PR, been living here for 15yrs (I'm 18). Anyway, the crime rate is VERY high BUT it's usually between people who know each other, like being involved with drugs. Rarely it's between strangers.

never been but looks gorgeous!!!! the first person to answer was quite rude on their reponse. when i think of puerto rico i do think of drugs right off the bat. they do have a high crime problem with murders and drugs.....but i think if you are in the mix of that type of crowd then yea your chances go up to be in a crime releated situation.

i think you would be just fine!

it isnt bad. it is just like living in New York City or Chicago. there is always some crime but not to the point where its unsafe to walk out of your house. but i would recommend living in the outskirts of san juan in a smaller town so you are not in the middle of the craziness. and the answers above are very untrue and racist, therefore do not listen to them. i have actually been there and i know its not bad.
