Tipping in jamaica?

We are staying at the all inclusive couples swept away in Negril at the end of this month. I've been looking online and it tells you not to tip, however I've been reading some peoples reviews and comments and they tell you that the service is not good unless you tip. So what is the rule of thumb? tip or no tip when we are there? or are there only particular people you need to tip? maids? servers? activities?

Tipping is always welcome! At the all inclusive its not necessary to do, as it's already included in the package, but if you feel that service was exceptional it doesnt hurt to give a small token.

And gratuity IS included in the pay check!! Managers dont get paif gratuity, but if you are a member of the service staff i.e housekeeping, guest services, wait staff then gratuity is paid out in each pay check.

Use you head, tipping any where in world will let you get better service all inclusive or not, for example if you go to supermarket and you always dip the carry out person they will always look out for you.

I just got back from Jamaica a few weeks ago. We also stayed at an all-inclusive that said not to tip. As soon as you arrive at the airport, the shuttle bus that takes you to your hotel, you need to tip those people - and you have to tip them individually (the bus driver, the guy who loads/unloads your luggage). At the resort, only tip when you think the service is extraordinary, or if you want a specific employee to pay more attention to you...Ex: you want to go snorkeling, or on the free boats rides, tip these guys so next time you want to go out - they'll remember you and put you in the front of the line. If you decide to leave the resort, you should tip the drivers, tour guides, etc. They will actually straight out and ask you for a tip. The service is good regardless if you tip or not. I don't think it's necessary to tip the maids or house cleaning, because for the most part you don't see those people.

Im jamaican and its literally up to you if you should tip. Truth be told most staff memebers dont even recieve the tips included in the all inclusive payment as they claim. Im jamaican and ive been to most all inclusive hotels in negril and they are wonderful - better than ocho rios in my book and the service is great no matter the time of day or night and the beach is the best.
Its really up to you but in my book they are worth tipping - a waiter went the x-tra mile to get me some necessities off the hotel grounds at 3AM in the morning..you cant beat a service like that.
Good Luck

If you want special treatement, tip. You will get a better overall treatement by staff. If they know that you tip. Because one dollar US = call it $70 so a $5 or even a $10 twice to people that look like if you tip them they will tell people that you arent stingy so everyone will give you their full 100% or more, and plus say you tip $5 once you can just tip $1's when ever you think it is necessary. This will help if you will be somewhere for a while.

When you go to Jamaica the tip is already included in the check do NOT tip more than the gratuity already added. But if it is all inclusive most of the time it includes that gratuity, you can also not pay it if you feel if the service wasn't good, which unfortunately I had to do because of the terrible service I got once.
