Travel From California to Puerto Rico -Non Citizen Passport Question?

Hi, I am not a US citizen ,but I do have a legal US / California issued Drivers licence.
I live in US California now.

I am planing to travel to Puerto Rico.
My question is: Do i need my passport since I am not a citizen? or only my U.S. drivers licence is valid to travel from California To Puerto Rico and come back?? Coming back is also importtant.

I found some articles saying Any U.S. state to PR is a domestic travel, butg my question is is it same after the passport law???

thanks

When traveling domestically to/from puerto rico, you do not need a passport, however I do recommend it, in case Immigration agents stop you and ask for proof of your status in the country. To them a drivers license is just that- a license to drive, not an ID that verifies your status in the US.

So far you valid drivers license is fine, but depending on the month that you are comming you will need proof of citizenship because you say you are not a US citizen. If you were born in the U.S. you will only need your driver's license. I suggest to be on the safe secure side, get a passport or better yet consult with your local state department because it is supposed to be around April 2008 that all non-U.S. citizens have a passport.
I was born in New York State and have been living here for the past 29 years now and I do have my birth certificate and passport. But for me to travel or my son or daughter whom were born in the States they do not need it, only the license becuase in the Luis Munoz Airport here the will ask and verify. My daughter was recently in New York City and she only needed here drivers license to go and return. So get your US citizenship papers and / or passport because arriving here and leaving here you will need on of them.

Is You are NOT a Legal Resident with a Valid Alien Resident Card....You will need Your country Passport with a Valid US Tourist Visa...

a California Driver license it's ok for a US Citizen only...

It is highly recommended to have a passport and there is a reason why they say this. Travel industry makes this statement. I have been stopped twice leaving from Puerto Rico to New York City and have been asked lots of questions. The most common illegal immigration in PR is Dominicans because it's easier for them to enter PR by boats and then attempt to get into the US.

I strongly suggest you sould have a passport if you are not a US. Citizen, unless you have a green card, then that's fine.

If you do not have a green card or U.S passport, you still have to proove to the immigration officers that you live in the US legally...and a driver's liscence do not proove that. Since foreign people living in the US can get a driver's liscence too.

Your drivers license is a government issued ID so it is valid to use for travel. Puerto Rico is a US territory so domestic rules apply. Meaning if you wouldn't use your passport to fly to any other state in the US then you won't need it for Puerto Rico. I have flown in and out of this airport a few times and have never had problems when using my drivers license. You can take your passport if it makes you feel comfortable, but you do not need it to get there or back.
