Travel between Caribbean Islands, is a passport needed?

Does anyone know about travelling within the caribbean in terms of whether I will need a passport (mine is expired and I'm from Trinidad which is a Caribbean island) to visit another Caribbean island??? I know that prior to the CSME agreement it was necessary, since the agreement was formed between the Caribbean islands I know they wanted to eradicate the need for a passport so that there could be free movement of islanders in the region. However I don't know if it is in effect yet? Does Anyone have any useful knowledge on this subject matter????

I'm Trini, and although l went to St Lucia back in 2003, l went to Barbados and Jamaica (Dec) last year and l had to have my passport. So l'm sure you'll need it, you know how these things are bogged down by bureaucracy.

I cannot find anything current that says the agreement is effect..just that it is still "in the works." But, you could contact the passport office and ask them.

If they are considered different countries,
you will need a passport.

I cruise the Caribbean every winter on my boat and I have to use my PASSPORT in order to CLEAR IN whenever I go to a new island COUNTRY... for Trinidad and Tobago, you just clear in at Trinidad, but to go to say, Grenada or Bequia or where ever.. then I have to use my passport.

There was an effort about a year ago to simplify all the formalities withing the Caribbean in order to entice CRUISING SAILORS since they are the life blood of the islands... but.. in typical Caribbean manner... it's stalled in all but just a few countries and even MORE bureaucracy has been added by the clearance requirements that the U.S. imposed after 19 Jan. 2009.

Dominicana Princessa
YES MA'AM!! :D

If you fly, you need a passport. If you travel by land or sea, you don't. But as of Jan. 31, U.S. adults are expected to present at least a birth certificate or other proof of citizenship, plus a government-issued photo ID, such as a driver's license, to cross these land-sea borders; children 18 and younger need only a birth certificate.

Bajan Princess =]
Yes of course...you WILL need a passport.

Good luck..hope u get it in time.
