When it comes to details like modern airplanes (with TV for every seat), airjamaica CANNOT compete. They just dont have the money for all that newer technology. They can't compete with British Airways or any of the other major airlines that operate LONG and highly profitable flights.

HOWEVER, as far as service in THIS hemisphere, AirJ is usually in the top 10%. It beats MOST u.s.a. airlines by far.

i shoudl point out that they have made changes since this recession that could alter things for the worst, but since all airlines around here are doing that, we will have to see what the comparitive effect is.

As far as the Flight Attendants? i find thier service is USUALLY good, but the truth is that this can vary tremendously. I have seen cases where they seem very miserable and unfriendly for no reason AT ALL. When i ask quietly, i will hear the reason: Sometimes they end up working VERY long shifts (almost illegally long) at short notice and have to act like professionals 'no matter what'. They endure tremendous amounts of abuse (verbal and otherwise). You might be just asking for a bottle of water, but not even realize what happened on a previous flight 3 hours ago. There are perfect flights and some HORRIFIC flights. Usually the attendants have to suck it all up and work the turn around flight like 'nothing happened'.

Outside of the flight where the attendants look abused? Air Jamaica does a damn good job.

I like air Jamaica i fly it all the time. Simple nice people and it gets me to Jamaica in good time.

Air jamaica never had a plane crash so that should tell you something about their track record...I live in Miami, so my flrights only last about 45 minutes, but those 45 minutes are the best!

I have had great service with Air Jamaica, and am a return flyer of theirs for about 5 years now.

I travel on Air Jamaica every 3 months.I have had no problems with
them so far.For the most part,they have pretty much been on time.At
least the drinks and meals are still included,unlike most airlines.
They also have the most direct,non-stop service.Good luck,the
air fares fluctuate up and down frequently,so u have 2 catch the
price when it drops!

I will be traveling on Air Jamaica tomorrow to KIN, and I think it is better than most airlines that go to Jamaica with their non-stop service. Other airlines nickel and dime you. Air Jamaica gives free meal and beverage service but that is until May 1st. Beverages will although be free past that date. Also what I notice recently is that Air Jamaica is now departing on or close schedule so that is a major plus.
Now watch out for their flight attendants, they can have an awful attitude. The less you request from them is the better.

I have travelled on a few airlines so I'm not someone who is answering this question without knowing what they're talking about. I've been on Continental, Air France, Virgin, Delta, American Airlines, South West Airlines, South African Airlines, BA, etc but without a doubt, the absolutely worst airline I have ever travelled on is Air Jamaica.

Not only was the food and the inhouse entertainment horrible but the air hostesses were the rudest I've ever encountered. The last time I travelled with Air Jamaica (not the last time I went to Jamaica) was in 2003 when I went with a group of friends. During the flight, the seat of one of my friends couldn't go back and so he got up to fix it. A hostess came to him and said, "Who are you? The official chair fixer?" Later on another hostess came giving out drinks. She had asked our row and had passed when one of my friends asked for some water. She got vexed, kissed her teeth and said, "Why didn't you ask before?" For the rest of the flight we were as meek as lambs.

I'm not trying to purposely make Air Jamaica sound bad because I'm half-Jamaican and half-South African. Incidentally, I find South African Airways the best airline in the world. The staff are extremely curtious, the food excellent and the inflight entertainment 21st century (not the big screen in the middle of the plane like Air Jamaica).

I believe if you're going to be flying for more than 10 hours it should be a good experience for your money.
