i only heard the part of the story where her father built a shrine on a hill by de highway.

I believe in the stories becuz i think there's a little bit of truth in everything. And im a little bit whimsical so things like that always intrigued me and i would love to believe it.

My grandparents told me all those same stories, but they are all myth, nothing was true or real, it was just their way of trying to scare us when we were kids..lol.. It worked on me when I was a kid.
I was so scared of an old lady in the village as people said she turned into a Soucoyant at night.. Whenever she would walk in front of our house, we ( meaning some friends and siblings) would hold out a cross and put salt on the road.. Believe it or not, she would get so mad and turn around and go back home.. so that made us more scared of her.. she did it on purpose lol.. we figured that out when we became older.. Trinidad has a lot of folklore and it's so very rich in culture. I love it.

The story about the girl on the highway. There is a statue on the Solomon Hochoy highway, located around one of the flyovers (I can't remember which one exactly). I've seen the statue myself. The main story is that the girl was a farmer's daughter and she was bitten by a snake whilst playing in the bushes. She died and he built a statue in her memory. The head of the statue was accidently knocked off by a bulldozer that was excavating in the area. According to the myth, the driver of that bulldozer later died in a tragic accident. There have also been some theories that the statue is actually an old statue of Jesus Christ.

I've heard various stories about the La Diablesse, Douen, Soucouyant, Le Loupgarou, etc. I'm not entirely sure if they are true. I've always thought that they were stories cleverly concocted to put the fear of God into little children. lol. Also, if you look closely at all the stories they teach you a lot about morality. For instance, La Diablesse would lure unfaithful men to their deaths. Douens would take your children away if you did not have them baptised. And so on and so on.

Oh gosh, lemme shut up now. Ah talkin' meh head off.

You can't believe what those old Trini's say.

Now if they were Vincentians, you could believe it to be true.
