As a former Trini, I'd advise u to be VERY VERY careful. Kidnappings have become commonplace, and not only the rich are being taken. I'll be blunt, if you're white, you stand out as tourist bait and are an easy target. If you're not white, speak quietly, don't announce the fact that you're as tourist. Above all be careful

Friggy Frigg~la bella vita~
How exactly does someone become a former Trini? I'm curious to know that?? but anyhoo... back to the question.. Just use common sense dred..there's safety in numbers & there's crime wherever you go.. don't sport a lot of cash or jewelry.. go into the cities, just use caution as you would with any new place that you visit. Keep electronics such as laptops etc at home..no need to flash..that'll make you a big time target. Don't put all your money in one place..if you have a tour guide, that will help too, just make sure you know who you're getting.. u doh want to end up wit some ole tief who go loss yuh & tief yuh money (juss kiddin)..but seriously..just have fun, & try to stay away from the hawaiian shirt, socks & sandals look okay... Just use common sense , trust in God & you'll be OKAY :):) Have funnnnnnnnnnnnn:):):)

Go to the pitch lake & the zoo :):) & the nature center.. definitely check out san fernando.. go movietowne too :)

You should look foward to the most fun and excitement youve had in ages!!!

Yes, crime is high, but you can stay safe by using common sence. Dont flash money or show off and dont go out alone at night, just simple stuff to be safe. Its not like we have the highest crime, other countrys have much more problems with crime, like julien mentioned, we dont have all those bomb threaths and anthrax worries, and plane crashes. Just be alert.

Try local foods, there DELICIOUS!!! Try doubles, roti and curry, alo pie, and other local foods and sweets.
The exchange rate averages 1US=6.20TT. US cash is accepted in Trinidad, but try to exchange some US for TT dollars.
Visit our capital city, theres lots to do there, like shopping and touring. Also visit the beaches, and bluebasin waterfall, the pitch lake, and wild life preserves. TnT has much to offer!!! Have fun, and welcome to paradise!!!!

And btw, what is a former trini????????

You know i have to laugh at this one .... and Rummy as always is right....HOW IN DE WORLD YUH BECOME AH FORMER TRINI !!!!! That like a Michael Jackson switch !
Like any other country Trinidad have it's share of problems but its not any worse off than any other.
You still have to be aware as if you are in any other country.
At least we don't have car bombs and planes flying into buildings, or antrax in buses (our hazmat unit gear is hardly ever used)
So my friend welcome in advance, hook up with some locals so you know where to avoid and enjoy your time here.

Yes!There is a BIG problem with crime. It would be best to go out in groups as kidnapping is quite popular these day's. Also is "chopping" (knife cut's). The medical care is not that great so take whatever med's you need. Mosquito's are quite plentiful so take lot's of OFF!. BE SURE to see Asa Wright Center, Pitch Lake, Caroni Bird Sanctuary and eat LOT's of Doubbles.

just use your common sense...make sure you are aware of where you are and as you travel to tt read your info...foreign affairs has up to date info you can get from the post report..

local laws can differ so if you carry medication you may need a letter from doctor so check the consular advice from the reps...

trini
Dude just go and have a good time.Use your commonsense but be wise ...move around in groups and if you smart youd go to tourisam and see if they can organize a guide it helps to have some one on board who knows the place. crime is evry where just remember your in a different country ...ppl are easy going and funloving..but you have to be smart ..if you lost ask a police or go in to a bank or something and ask the security or info at the front desk. jus be normal and use the sense god give yuh.....and dont study that dude who said stay away from major city...he prolly expects u to go stay in bush in the country side.

triniyankee
former ? well im sure plenty people done cuss she/he. and as far as bein white...trini people could point out a foreigner without him/her openin them mouth. but i dont know what advice to give as you could get tief in d day an night. go in a group setting is as best as i could tell ya

Hello, I'm Johnny Cash
crime? no thats not a big problem the problem is the corruption. ( Jamacia has a much higher crime rate)

its ok of yea spicy kfc is much hotter than ones in the US.

its like going any where around the world, dont be stupid blah blah blah.

dont worry about kidnapping, kiddnaping is only for the people who ae dealing in drugs.crime is mostly for drug dealers too.

Jay
Use common sense and don't venture off by yourself. Remember your not from there so just be aware of your surroundings.

tees89
Keep clear of the Cities. The Government is in bed with the Criminals there. Good luck, you will need it.

Its a paradise to Visit, only if you are with people who knows whats going on there. If not, you are in trouble.
