What did you think of the profile given to Trinidad and Tobago?
Secondly... do you really think Bake and Shark, calalloo, fried plantains and roti are that bizarre? |

Missed the blame show AGAIN but my opinion doesn't change. Frog legs, roasted bat, raw eel and stewed rats are bizarre foods. Bake and shark, Calalloo, fry plantatain and rotiare just GOOD foods!!!
A while ago, Rachel Ray did a piece on Trinidad in her Tasty Travels segment. Anyone see that? I eh cry and dat was all. If meh chest coulda buss wit pride it woulda. She did an excellent job! She featured all the usual local foods we use to sell ourselves to foreigners but what I really appreciated was that she asked the locals what their favorite foods were and featured those too. Even though it was a cooking show she still touched on alot of our culture. She touched on Carnival, the Botanical Gardens, the lingo (tried to explain liming, too funny), the historical houses around the Savannah, the set up of our government, our natural resources and exports. It was really thorough. What was really funny (and maybe TMI so my apologies beforehand) was that when the show started I was in mid run to the bathroom to address a hot pee but yuh know once ah see what it was ah didn't move the whole time!! LOL |

I think eating Iguana and Guttee more bizarre, but what good for the Geese is not always good for the gander..... |

I missed that show again, but I don't consider most of our food to be bizarre, but then again we grew up with the food, so off course we will not think anything of it, but there are some foods that i will not eat from what I see you guys talking about.
Gibbsy girl, I did see the Rachel Ray show about Trinidad, I recorded it and like you i was very proud, she did a good job on that show about Trinidad. |

yes i totally agree bake and shark are the bizarre.. |
|

curious!
|
Bake and Shark, Calaloo and fried plantains aren't bizzare, but eating a lizard (iguana - which I love) may most likely be seen as bizarre.
Just like where in France they eat snails(escargots) or other countries who eat rats, scorpions, snakes (though my Uncle roasted a snake and eat it - it was huge and he said why let good meat waste, I tried it and it tastes like meat - but it is tooooo bony!) |

They did a fair job. To us our food is normal everyday thing, but to others they will be like wtf?? It's the same all over the world, i know i give foods the once over when im introduced to something new. I mean cmon i dont think i ever heard of "first world" (and i use that term loosely) countries eating shark, so they will def raise their eyebrows when they see something like that. |

I keep hearing about that show but I'm yet to see it. My cousin saw it and told me about it, but I don't think it's been on in my neck of the woods. I did see the Rachael Ray show and I sent some copies of the show to my family. It was really well done. I really don't know what is strange about Bake and Shark, calalloo etc.....my hubby is European and loves it all especially the Bake and Shark. He keeps hoping that he'll find some place in Toronto that makes it.
BTW, someone posted the episode on You Tube....here's the link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XU1ghzRL-8g
There are 6 parts.... |

I keep missing that episode...but Shark and Bake may be bizarre, they accustomed to sharks eating them not the other way around.
They should have given him wild meat, like horse, iguana eggs, agouti, snake, those kind of things if they wanted to be serious. |

I didn't see it, but those foods that you named are not bizarre at all, we are accustom to those things and like in every culture there are different ways of preparing foods, same deal here. I hope that the viewing audience didn;t get turn off from the wonderfully favored foods Trinidad has to offer!! |
