I try to talk to my dad and all he ever tells me about that god forsaken island is all the crime there!!! Is it really that bad? I mean, Im not going to do anything stupid. but we're going there next year, I was exited at first. But now I'm just thinking we're going there and not be able to have any fun...

I am speaking the truth here not taking into consideration that I live in TnT.
The truth is if your father have not seen this place in a long time he is in for a huge surprise. Yes, Trinidad had become a more developed place,it's amazing. There are roads that weren't there before and unless you have been making regular trips you are bound to get lost. As much as this place has gotten great, the crime situation is unbearable. The only kinda safe place in Trinidad is Westmorrings and that is because it is where "white people" live. That is the only place I can think of where crime is booming.

No matter what you do STAY AWAY FROM MORVAT LAVENTILLE, and parts of Belmont. Even the capital P.O.S isn't safe anymore. Just always be conscious of where you go and the people around you.

Some may say "Oh Jamaica, Nyc have more crime but they have to think about somethings. Compare the size of Trinidad, to Jamaica to Nyc. Trinidad has alot of crime FOR IT'S SIZE.

But no matter what anyone says, This place will always be my home.

I am not assamed of what we are, but what we have become.

I don't understand why out of all of the islands on Y!A Trinbago people always have to say something negative about they own country. If I go to the Barbados, Jamaica, Grenada etc sections you don't see them saying how bad their country is, somebody tell me if I am wrong...........

Anyhow to answer your question( and it seems to be a frequent asked question as of late) their are bad places everywhere you go, just go , mind your p's and q's, have fun and you will be ok my friend.

oh gosh Kelsey whoooo sah i well laugh here

let meh quote yuh - "The only kinda safe place in Trinidad is Westmorrings and that is because it is where "white people" live. That is the only place I can think of where crime is booming."

Now yuh very correct in yuh statements ah go give yuh dat.
WestM kinda safe ....shizzle even ah minister house get broken into.
But yuh also saying dat "white people" is de cause of crime cause it "booming" in de area.
Did you have your "latte" for the day when you wrote dat ? Or maybe just maybe you got distracted from your Blackberry hand set while driving your "SUV" because "some lil N***** cut in front of you wit his cheap roll on roll off car"

Hint - enter the real Trinidad at least once a week.

now let me start by saying dat kelsey talking real sh*t, i live in trinidad and i live in the south of trinidad, San-Fernando to be exact and i can tell you that it is quite safe i am out at all hours of the night and i still feel safe!
it depends on the company you keep and what you are up to!..for instance when you look at the number of people being kill and so on the majority of them were involved in drugs or some other form of illegal activity!
saying that the west where the whit people live is the only safe place is real crap there are white people all over trinidad from debe to toco its people like you who give trinidad and bad name!
i went to usa earlier this year and was robbed in the AIRPORT!!.. "i didn't even land good in d people country!" all my life i've been in little trinidad and i can tell you i've never been robbed!

The crime has definitely become really terrible in the last 5 years or so. We've had close to 520 murders for the year so far. (population 1.2 million). We have the 14th highest murder rate in the world. I think most people in Trinidad have had experiences with crime or know someone who has been hurt by it whether is be kidnapping, murder, robbery, theft etc. It is definitely not the kind of place you can walk around the town at night. Yes it is true that there is crime everywhere but in Trinidad it exists in a disproportionate way to our size and population and there are very few if any places that have been unaffected. It was not always like this and you need to ask people before you decide to go somewhere if it is a reasonably safe place.

Curious!

Boy yuh safer here than many other places! Ask pops to go to the Gaza Strip first and then come and see how sweet Trinidad and Tobago is!
