Trying to pick between Cancun, Mexico and Puerto Plata, Dominican Republic...? |
So I thought I had talked my friend into going to Puerto Plata yesterday, then she e mails me today saying the travel agent called and said there is not a good night life in Puerto Plata, it's small and not a lot of shopping. I don't even want to go shopping!!! I had gotten info on here yesterday that Puerto Plata has a good party scene for 30 something singles, now the travel agent is messing everything up!! Is Cancun better? I feel like it's gonna be a bunch of 18 yr olds and not my type of place. I want an adult atmosphere, people around 30, and good party spots. Please let me know if you have any info!!!

I think Cancun would satisfy the both of you. Shopping is close by ... a short (minutes) bus trip from your resort at the worst. You can stay on the beach! The beaches are lovely, superb in fact. And the nightlife is as wild or as mild as you want to make it.

It depends on when you go. Unless you are going to an adults only resort then its really luck of the draw. Unless its spring break of course. Both places have there pluses and minuses.
Cancun- AWESOME night life.. you'll have an amazing time if nightlife is what your looking for. Parts of Cancuns beaches are destroyed because of Hurricane Wilma.. which puts a damper on things. But night life is definately there.
Puerto Plata - If you are a white sand beach kinda person like myself.. you won't like P.P. Yes it has more nightlife than any other place in Dominican because Dominican usually you can't leave the resorts because of safety. Mexico you don't have this problem.
What about staying in Playacar? in the Mayan Riviera.. Playa Del Carmen has great night life.. but isn't the "Las Vegas" that Cancun brings... plus some of the resorts there are amazing.. beautiful beaches.!! And if all else fails.. Cancun is 40 minutes away.

Cancun by Far.
Overall, I liked Cancun better, but it isn't fair to PP because when I got there, there was a big storm and it was raining like crazy so we had to get back to Santo Domingo, which kinda sucked.
But Cancun was great!

Riviera Maya is perfect for both of your needs...its beautiful, has a lot of stuff to do, and is relatively affordable. Plus its not full of spring breakers getting drunk and having sex everywhere like Cancun |

Puerto Plata has good nightlife but not so nice beach. If you are a beach person, you will be very disappointed!

Tel the travel agent he don't know anything about this matter! Hoe can he say something like that if he/she probably never been to Puerto Plata?
Puerto Plata is not big but have 230.000 souls living there, also have Ocean World and so many more to see and to enjoy. Nightlife is less polished than the one in Cancun (Cancun is more tourist oriented night life)I live here for 15 years and believe me it is tremendous and the beach is great 13km long!
I think that the % for the travel agent must be bigger if he/she sells Cancun insteat of Puerto Plata.
