wait. i was watching a program on trinidad & tobago the other day on the travel channel and, they basically gave us a tour of the country the show as called "strange foods" i think, the host was this big fat white man from Europe who travels the world and you guessed it...eat! lol anyway he took us through trinidad and spent a little time in tobago and he showed how they capture and curry iguanas in tobago and he showed us the street parties and the stands in trinidad, i must say although the show is about strange foods world wide i want to go to trinidad, of all the places ive seen so far. he also took the crew to the "original souse king's house" (pls. forgive me if i got that wrong). it was this dread who cook food in his home and ppl go there to eat like in a restaurant it was cool. then i saw this food it was like fried bread (like tortilla) with a curry stew like in it...bwoy my stomach nah stop rumble lol i want some bad. it sweet mi yu see?

Now I'm not a big fan of Rachael Ray.....she kinda grates on meh nerves, but she visited Trinidad during Carnival a few years back and she opened the show with doubles....I was a nice half hour....I dunno what allyuh have with food here today, but ah getting real hungry.....especially for Trini KFC. My little brother was there for Carnival and I was begging him to bring me back a piece - yuh know a drumstick or a thigh....but I know if the C'dn customs had ketch up with him, they would have confiscated it. Between Smokey and Bunty, de jerk Chicken, and de corn soup....and the KFC......ah hungry!!!
I wonder if Yahoo Answers think that Haiti only have ignorant people like Haitian Queen so they decided to leave then off the list...lol. |

The name of the show is
Bizarre Foods by
Andrew Zimmerman on the Travel Ch every Monday at 8 or 9 pm I have been addicted to this show for the last 6 months love to see all the nasty food this man goes and eat and was very delighted to see it was in Trinidad even though every thing he considered bizarre is just regular food for us made me very hungry, but it was nice seeing Trinidad in a positive light they will repeat the episode just keep watching. |

Wow - I want that channel!
Yes dear since we have a mix of cultures - we have a mix of foods as well.
Africans,Creole, Chinese, Indian - are being the most popular types! Of course we change up de ting to suit we - so chinese food in NY is nothing compare to Trini! Those Indian resturants - eh serving we ting! and Creole for we eh macaroni and cheese and collard greens!
I love iguana - curry or stewed in coconut milk with dumplings and provisions YUMMY! though in Tobago dey leave the skin on (ewww!!)
The flat flour thing is Roti - and its similar to a tortilla or taco
The souse can comprise of chicken feet, pig feet, cow heel, fish, dread any meat yes! greenfig too (young bananas) I will eat any besides the cow tounge or tripe - its not for my pallete!
the souse liquid is well seasoned with herbs and spices (not weed eh) some cucumber and onions are all added in
I doh know dis souse man - wey he dey!!!
My fav foods - Curried or stewed goat/duck/chicken/beef with provisions
Carb and Dumplings - I love blue food!
I will love to try achee ah hear it real tasty - have u ever tasted it?
Haitian Queen - form a haiti group nah! |

Trinidad is the melting pot of the Caribbean, don't be angry that that is a fact, I have had foods from different Caribbean islands and trini food is the best.
I read your comment and my response is just that, you will have your opinion and I will have mine, right? If we all thought alike what would be the sense of this whole thing?? Try Trini food though and I am sure that you will enjoy it, good luck!! |

Anybody else mudder cook up curry turtle? or curry chip chip?? These are strange foods!! I also mentioned a few days ago the fruit called stinking toe children used to eat. If ah remember correctly, the smell was awful but yuh eating anyway!! Dem is strange food!!

Yes JN I was watching it again last night. It comes on the Travel Channel and it's called BIZZARE FOODS...not Strange Foods so sorry for the wrong name. But yeah I also saw them eat Cunck (i think that is how you spell it) its this huge meaty snail like thing that lives in a beautiful shell in the deep bodys of water around tobago and various other caribbean islands. They call it "Hurricane Ham". It looked disgusting but you cant judge a book by its cover. We eat Curry Roti in Jamaica yu kno but usually during Indian parties. And I think the name of the host's name is Chris Zimmerman or something like that him greedy self. |
