US citizens relocate to Puerto Rico?

What careers would be open to a US citizen down there?

Assuming that said US citizen speaks fluent Spanish...

What red tape would be involved?
Additional Details
I understand that they're part of the USA (they're a commonwealth), but what I don't get is why most people don't consider relocating down there.

I live in North Carolina, and it's such a drag having to scrape ice off your car for nine months out of the year, deal with mean, rude, cold people all year round, nothing pretty to look at, nothing fun to do.

Why does anyone live here when they can move?

I moved down to Puerto Rico about 20 years ago and I moved to Rincon. I am a teacher and had no problem getting a job. There is a fierce recession here, so it would be wise to have savings and a profession.
I moved to Rincon, which has a number of North American expatriates. Many of them have blogs, some even document their transition process.
This culture has its quirks, and is much different from the US. I don't see myself living back in the US again.

Don't move down in the winter, as this is the island's tourist season and rates for everything go up.

Check Caribbean Business and Endi.com for classified jobs.

Try these sites: ca2pr.com and
http://nickandmiri.wordpress.com

You should also visit the towns you'd consider moving to. I don't like San Juan because there're too many people. But you many have better opportunities for a job.
Frankly, I don't see why more statesiders retire here. Cost of living is the same as the states, and it has many advantages.

Good Luck

What red tape, they are part of us.

A US citizen can work in PR in anything. We (puertoricans) are US citizens like you. If someone wants to work in PR needs to be US citizen, green card holder or have a work visa as in any state.

I have a friend from Michigan that moved there and what she did is that she asked for a transfer from her job (Walmart) Get a job in a place that you can a transfer from where you are to Puerto Rico. The minimum wage is pretty low there, about $6/hr so if you are not a professional try getting a job before you move there so that way you will be getting more than the minimum. Example lets say you get a Job at Macy's in NC and they give $8/hr... that would be more that what you'll get in PR if Macy's hires you there, so when you transfer you have a better paying job.

To relocate your self here all that you need is the will to do it. We are as US citizens as you, so relocating down here is like relocate your self from N. C. to N. Y. Try to get an apartment or a house, probably in these e-addresses you'll get more info www.tiri.com www.primerahora.com www.elnuevodia.com.

The others are right, Puerto Rico IS the U.S. The people of Puerto Rico are U.S. citizens just like you. See page below for many sites with info on jobs in Puerto Rico.
