If I want to take a tropical vacation and don't want the usual Dominican, Cuba or Mexico, where should I go?
I don't want to go somewhere really expensive, but don't want a cheap resort either. All inclusive resort is preferred. Any suggestions welcomed! Thanks.

US dollar is the only currency in Puerto Rico. For Your Info, puertorricans are US citizens and have fought in every war (beginning with WW1)the US has participated in. Right now the economical situation in the island is not too good, a new sales tax will be in effect Nov 1st (do book your travel earlier), tax will be 7% then. If you stay in the metro area hotels (metro area in general) it can be somewhat expensive. Look for hotels in the south, west and southwest of the island, they have lower prices and the beaches are the best. Good luck.

I think the dollar does go farther than in the U.S for the simple reason that we don't have climate changes that require winter clothes, heating, etc. Housing is comparable to most cities but cheaper than in the Chicago, New York etc. Food is almost always more expensive. Gas is a bit less than in the U.S. Cars are more expensive because of taxes. Property tax is much cheaper than in the U.S. All things considered US dollar goes much farther but wages are not up to par. PR wages are lower.

yes they don't have taxes their. take a boat and go over to St Thomas while you are their it is a good place also.

..
ONCE YOU LEAVE THE SAN JUAN AREA YOU WILL FIND THE COST OF MOST THINGS IS VERY REASONABLE.

It does not go any farther that what it is worth. There is no other currency in Puerto Rico than the US dollar. The only good thing is that there is no sales tax until November, so you save a little, for now.

I was in Puerto Rico in March. The US dollar seemed pretty equivalent. I wan't shocked by how cheap or expensive anything was. Pretty comparable.

US dollar is the same. The food may be cheaper but all else is same.

Oh, yeah all those areas will take the US dollar. I think that it is pretty comparable to here and everything seemed pretty reasonable in the shops I went into and all the things that were bought, were of pretty good quality. I really don't know the rate of exchange for there but you could probably go to any bank or credit card website and find out what it is.
