The only places you can really go with out a passport are to PR & the USVI or stay in the US. Puerto Rico is really beautiful & has alot of things to do. San Juan is a nice city. Old San Juan has cobblestone streets, colorful spanish colonial homes & small boutiques & cafes. There are alot of historical sights too. El Morro Fort is a must see. Then the rest of San Juan is really modern. There is a ton of nightlife & casinos, etc. Isla Verde beach in San Juan is nice, its kind of like Miami beach. & PR has 2 small islands called Culebra & Vieques that have the most gorgeous white sand beaches & clear water. Also PR has El Yunque rain forest with waterfalls to swim in, the bioluminescent lagoon & biobay, Camuy Caves, Arecibo Telescope, the Bacardi factory & so much more to see & its all close by.I can tell you alot of nice hotels, but it depends on your budget & what town you'd like to stay in. Everything on the island can be driven to in less then a few hours. In San Juan, El San Juan Hotel is nice. There are alot of nice hotels in San Juan actually. In Fajardo, El Conquistador is the best. Dorado I like Embassy Suites. Check it out for yourself :)

PS also from PR there are ferries to St Thomas (USVI)

St. Thomas USVI is beautiful. We have stopped there several times on cruises and stayed there a week in an all-inclusive hotel. The beaches are beautiful, and the snorkeling is incredible. The fish are so colorful and friendly. The just swim right up to you. St. John is just a ferry ride away and is worth going to see. We stayed at the Wyndham Sugar Bay in St. Thomas and had a wonderful time. I attached the link below. Have a great time wherever you go.
