We have taken older teens to Hawaii once and the Caribbean several times. If you live on the east coast of the U.S., don't bother with Hawaii. The time change isn't worth it because Hawaii and the Caribbean both offer similar experiences. Likewise, if you live west, go to Hawaii. In the middle is a tossup.

We have avoided Bermuda because it is expensive and a bit too stiff for us. Cancun and Nassau are both good if you like well-developed tourist attractions with plenty of restaurants and nearby shopping. Cancun also has swimming with the dolphins and great Mayan ruins, but the beaches aren't as good lately because of hurricane damage. (We just went there in February.)

St. Lucia is good if you like more authentic Caribbean with beautiful landscapes for hiking and other nature activities. My son and I went on one great ATV ride in the backcountry, while my wife and daughter went to a volcanic mud bath.

You will be more likely to stay in a hotel in Cancun and Bahamas, while you probably will be better off in an all-inclusive in St. Lucia.

All of the above have pretty typical snorkeling experiences, parasailing, etc.

I've been to both Maui and Kauai in the Hawaiian islands and there is definitely no lack of things to do. There is fantastic hiking and awesome snorkeling on both islands. They are beautiful and really well suited for families.

The best value for your money would be an all-inclusive resort in Cancun or the Riviera Maya area.

The airline prices for Hawaii right now are very expensive.

All the Palace resort are nice. Some have free excursions included in their all-inclusive rate. Moon Palace is very nice.

Check this site for prices and more ideas.

Good Luck and enjoy)

There are some great deals at all inclusive resorts in the Cancun region that would be a great fit for your family . The area has plenty to explore , from Mayan ruins at Tulum & Chitzen-Itsa , to snorkeling ocean reefs & a great delta at Xel-Ha or exploring the cenotes ( underwater caves in the mountains ) . You could take a day trip to Cozumel or Isla Mujeres ( small Islands of the coast ) or just hang out on the fabulous beach at your resort . If you would like the help of a travel pro with your trip , email me ( gerry@snapshottravelagency.com ) with some details ( exact dates , departure airport , approximate budget , preferences , etc. ) and I will find you the perfect package for your family at the best price available anywhere ( my vendor has a "match & beat" policy ) . I have vacationed with my family in the Cancun area & we loved it , I am sure you will , too . Best regards , Gerry Donnelly , Snapshot Travel

Do not go to Cancun. I went there in March and my experience was awful. People begged my family to give them money. One person even asked if we could take care of him. It was a sad place.

Hawaii is your best bet. If you decide on Hawaii, stay in Oahu. The beach there is beautiful! You can hike up volcanoes, snorkel and parasail, The beaches are just GORGEOUS. Your teenagers will like it because there are many different activites such as: surf lessons, bike tours, canoeing/kayaking, etc. I'm a teen and in my opinion, I think that your teenagers will love it. I loved Hawaii. My parents and brother loved it, too.

Oh, and one last thing! Go to Alan Wong's if you decide on Oahu! It is expensive, yet it is delicious!

I hope I heped you out!
