A NAP BQ:

No, Cuba was a Spanish colony after Colombus discovered it for Spain. Then the Spanish American war kicked out Spain. The U.S. then had somewhat control over Cuba until full independence in 1904. Unfortunately, Cuba has had some bad government since. Castro has been a disaster. |

When there was just ONE CONTINENT.. and that was Pangea or Gonawandaland, depending on which name you want to use... ALL the continents and islands were connected. Since Cuba is just 90 miles from Key West, it was probably connected to what is now Florida but may or may not have ever touched Mexico. |

As mentioned, Cuba and Mexico were both colonies of Spain for several centuries.
Before Columbus, Cuba was occupied bt the Taino and Ciboney peoples. I don't believe either had any connection with Mexico.
PS the "Grito de Yara" not only announced the start of the first war of independence, but also freedom for slaves. Many Cubans talk about 10 de octubre as if it were a celebration for the negroes, not the whites. |

No, Cuba was not part of Mexico. The only connection there is/was is for business relations.
http://www.earthtimes.org/articles/show/192271,cuba-and-mexico-normalize-relations.html
The island had been inhabited by Native American peoples known as the TaÃno and Ciboney whose ancestors had come from South America and possibly North and Central America in a complex series of migrations at least several centuries before, and perhaps 6,000 to 8,000 years ago.
But when Columbus discovered Cuba, he claimed it for Spain. So there was a period of Spanish colonialism. The only connection to Cuba is that Castro had been exiled to Mexico for a time being...but other than that, Cuba was not a part of Mexico. They both are separate.
It lies at the entrance to the Gulf of Mexico, which is what may make one think it could be connected to Mexico. But it's not.
