IT IS DOMINICAN PESO (DOP) . AND MOST TOURIST AREA ACCEPTS US DOLLARS. BUT IT IS ALWAYS BETTER TO HAVE PESOS AND KNOW IT VALUE OF COURSE (US1X33.4).

The Dominicans like using the Dollars as they seem to be worth more money terms than the Peso!! I went for two weeks in Jan and used Dollars. The only time we had to use PESO was when we did a trip to puerto plata city tour where they take you on a cable cart, they only took peso.

It is the Dominican Peso. If you check the site below you will find conversion charts. As a rule you will get a better rate for changing your money at the exchange shops on the street than you will at the banks.
