Be careful, many of the islands are crime ridden off the tourist beaten path. The best thing to do is contact the embassy of each, and let them suggest a driver for you. At least they will know where you are at all times. In addition, go on line and looked at the more public places that have good security and areas that are not too far from the ship. Taxis can get complicated at night. In addition, go to one of the ships or yachts that are park and asked them if they are Brits or Americans where is the coolest places to go. Or better yet, contact some of the Yachting places on each island before you get there and get this information.

Turn up and ask the crew...try the musicians first, they have a lot of spare time to suss out where's best to go! When you get off the ship there'll be dozens of people trying to entice you onto their excursions who are often cheaper than the official ones and you can barter with these, aim for around 60-70% of the original asking price.
Have fun! |

You will LOVE the cruise is my bet! To me it's the only way to travel. You can be on a ship with 3,000 other passengers and 2,000 crew members and yet you can be as alone as you chose to be. Or with as many people as you want to be!
The ports of call you mention are awesome!
You might want to rethink booking tours independently though. I've not had bad experiences doing that - but consider this in your choice ..... should you book on your own & be delayed getting back to port - you're going to miss the boat! However if you book thru the cruise line - they will wait for you or else - they will arrange for you to be flown to the next port of call to reconnect with them. So - even a flat tire or a minor fender-bender could wind up costing you a LOT.
The islands are beautiful, tropical, and amazing .... Just enjoy!
The island tours are wothwhile trips and generally are not expensive at all. Even following the planned trips - you will still have time to explore on your own. Shop in the local stores, enjoy a dinner at a lot eatery - just sit and people watch! Enjoy your trip. |

Just enjoy the journey, thats what a cruise is all about anyway, it aint the destination its how much fun was had dureing the journey.
The islands can be Drug Lords, and Terrorists or they can be happy people that are enjoying the moments that are real whilst others worry about the things that have not occured.
As a Sailor, yes its kinda wise to stay near a Port. Main Town Area. That is true no matter where you are at. And sometimes it isn't.
The fun you and your companion have will be shared moments of happiness.
You can be shot and are more likely to be shot in USA than on a Caribbean Isle. Thats a fact from the DoJ.
Look around the shops, the beaches, play in the water, find a magical sea shell on the beach, BUT be sure to throw it back into the water while you sail away, the shell isnt yours, it never was.
Point: Dont buy seashells and waste all your time wasteing money. |

You are visiting some of my favorite islands. We rarely purchase excursions, unless it is something really unique.
There will be zillions of taxi's at any port. If you make friends with another couple on the ship, the 4 of you can share several hours of sightseeing for half the cost.
I suggest you do your own research to know what you want to see.
The cruise lines push shopping...shopping..shopping.
Diamonds International and Tanzanite International have become a cruise ship standard. Horrible thing to do to vacationers. Sell Sell Sell.
You will be fine on your own.
Someone told you to ask a travel agent and then purchase something on the internet. That really upsets me. We work very hard to insure our clients get the best for their money. Put us out of business and you are left with idiots like that that to advise you. |

Been on a Carnival cruise, they seemed pretty good. Have you tried asking a travel agency, they are usually good at recommendation, you can always got all the information from them but then shop around for best prices on the internet. Happy holidays x |

Do your research, try and find out where the excursions are gong to be and then ask in some travel agents and pretend you want to book a holiday with them to those places, they will tell you whats good and what isn't, i know its sneaky! Look on the Internet and at guide books. I went on my first cruise at Easter and the excursions were very expensive, next time I will be prepared. Some you might have to go on because of the immigration laws but check with the agent on the ship when you get on it. Enjoy your cruise, it is an experience, take those travel bands you put on your wrist for sea sickness, they really work, we only had one choppy night and I put my bands on and had some cocktails, fantastic! My Husband and young son didn't feel sick at all but my teenager did after drinking till 3 in the morning - with me! I have never been so relaxed or pampered on holiday before. |
