Pretty much every resort in Jamaica does dozens of weddings every month so they can handle all of the details. The first decision should be "at which resort do you want to be married?" I am guessing the same resort will also be your honeymoon site. Thing about what you want in a resort and go from there.
Some resorts cater to children while others don't allow kids. Still others are very much ADULT. Hedonism resorts are examples of these. Cost varies greatly by resort and is usually related to the quality rating (3 stars or 5 stars, for example.) Some resorts are all inclusive while others are more like a typical hotel. Some have very nice beaches while others have no beach at all. Some resorts work hard at being fun while others specialize in relaxation. These are just a few questions to ask yourselves before choosing a resort.
When you decide what you want in a resort go to TripAdvisor.com to research resorts in Jamaica. Type in Jamaica in the search area and you can view every resort on the island. You can read the resort amenities, read trip reports written by previous visitors, view "candid traveler photos" that some of those people posted, and ask questions in the "forums" section. It is a great resource for researching a honeymoon and will make a problem free trip. |

I'm getting married abroad - Jamaica next year...
Go for it! Congratulations on the engagement. Where to start: Get loads of brochures and go through them all. Most high street travel agents have a wedding coordinators who can help you loads... I have found Thomas Cook or Virgin staff to be very helpful..
What are you looking for in the brouchure and travel agents:
Hotels that cater you budget - What is your budget? Are you going to go for a basic free package, and get loads of extras, are you going for the top range wedding package, is it just the two of you and having a basic free package would do?
Hotels that cater you requirements - are you inviting children, elderly family members, is the hotel catered for there needs? Are you having your hotel seperate to your guest, or are you staying with them the whole duration?
Advice - how helpful was the travel agent with showing you information on the hotels that would be best for you? Do they have an in-house wedding consultant? Get in contact with the hotels wedding co-ordinator and ask questions, assess how well the questions were answered, how prompt they were, whether they can cater for your requirements.
It works out sooo much cheaper than getting married here, without losing the romantic aspect of it! Many hotels do a free wedding package then you can add your extras to that - like upgrade of cake, wedding reception...
Two things to consider:
1.The requirements the destinations have to weddings. We went from Maldives to Seychelles, Cuba to Dominica Republic and ended up with Jamaica because there is no translation fee required, no solicitor fee's to prove we are single, only have to wait 3days from once we arrive....
2. Family & Friends. If you are having children at the wedding you will need to be staying at a hotel which caters for them.... Adult hotels don't children attend the hotel, not even for day. Also are you going to have your family and friends stay within the same hotel as you, or are you staying at a different hotel?...other than that, I'd say..
Tips: Make sure that the airline that you are travelling with accepts you taking the dress on board or as hand-luggage...
Consultant with the wedding planners as much as possible, answering ALL your 101 questions (you will bound to have them!)

All inclusive hotels usually have deals for bride and grooms. If you have family stay there too you can get your wedding for free. Look at sandals i know a friend who did that it's the best idea for your wedding. |

You can look at the Jamaica Tourist Board website to see what the requirements are and the various options they offer.
The most popular option for most folks is booking an all-inclusive wedding package with a hotel chain that specializes in destinations such as Sandals, SuperClubs or Couples. All you have to do is book your stay and they'll make all the arrangements for you. You will be required to send notarized copies of your birth certificates, divorce/death decree (if applicable) etc to the wedding coordinator at the hotel. They will do everything for you including applying for the marriage license & certificate.
But look at the JTB site and see what would suit you best. |

If you have a money problem check out www.negrilonestop.com www.montegobayonestop.com and www.ochieriosonestop.com Congrats and for a stress free wedding leave the planning up the the hotel. |

First determine what resort you would like to stay at....all hotels there offer a free wedding planner....then after booking your trip you can ususally contact the wedding planner at that particular resort to work out the details. She will tell you what documents you will need to make it all legal as well as going over all the little details to make that day perfect.
Me and my husband went there for our honeymoon and saw hundreds of couples getting married the week that we were there....you are gonna love it!

Well the best place to go is the Jamaica Tourist Office. Have a look at their web site then check out prices in places that you might want to go to.
I think this is the best start, then you'll build your questions and a picture from there. For a wedding, guests will need to book at the hotel, so make sure they can book online or that they can call the hotel. a reputable web based service like Cheaperthanhotels or a travel agent could be very useful here. However, I think the above website only currently does last minute specials in Jamaica. |

I would start by looking getting general information about Jamaica and then deciding when and where. And then wedding portion will come a little easier, by asking the hotel staff for information. Be sure to inquire about how long you must be in Jamaica for them to officially marry you. (I read somewhere that you need to be on the island for at least 48 hours before a ceremony can be performed) |

depends on the type of wedding you are looking for, Jamaica has many, many, many churches, (if you're going traditional) some as old as 250 yrs (not that it looks that way) We hold the Guinness book of record for most churches per square mile, so i guess u get my point.
Then of course we have miles and miles of beaches if you want a beach wedding (Negril i recommend)
Then we have cruise ships, scuba diving, nude beaches and the sort, that's if you want an exotic, themed , just plain different kind a wedding.

If you look in the holiday brochures such as Virgin, or Thomas cook signatures they will sort it all out for you
They will guide you through all the red tape and there will be a rep there to help you at the other end, its a lot easier to do it that way..............

i have a lot of family in Jamaica so hopefully I can help u out. First off where do you want to get married? A church, cruise, the beach? Once you can answer that question you should look for location. For instance if you want to marry on a cruise look for a 7-day Carnival cruise that goes to Montego Bay or Ocho Rios. My sister in law got married on one in October it was really nice. If on a beach consider the above 2 locations and Kingston which is the capital. Once you figure that out all thats left is looking at your budget and picking out the plan that works for you financially. Then go and jump the broom!!!

I was going to post an answer but then decided to read other peoples answer. If you don't want to take Smittys' advice then may be you can take mine. Hire a bunch of mercenaries to secure the area before you go in. Then provide bullet proof vests for every one and hope for the best.
Kingston Ha they'd better off and a hell of a lot safer getting married in Kingston Penitentiary.Kingston is almost the only city in the world that's patrolled by the army. The police can't even protect the decent folks leave alone them selves. Did I say decent folks if there are any that is. May be they got caught in all the cross firing going on.
I guess I can't be all that wrong I didn't get any thumbs in the 4 hours I posted this. I worked with a lot of Jamaicans a couple were decent but I'll never hire any not after what some put me through and did to me I'm not a racist and I was always defending immigrants not any more after what they did to me. |
