Our country is a marvelous island. Tourists are attracted like they were before fidel, by the weather, the beaches, the friendliness of the Cubans. Sadly, I must add that also the prostitution.
Ironically, when fidel seized charge , he eliminated prostitution with a great propaganda about it and other social reforms. Now, under scarcity, lack of practically everything, and misery , some women have gone to prostitution to survive.
To add insult to injury, fidel itself recommended the Cuban prostitution in one of its speeches
I would be glad to talk to you about Cuba. I would really appreciate if you tell me about your country, please. You are from Australia, I think
My email address is persyak@yahoo.com
Fine, officer, we know that. It is a characteristic of dictatorships to heve something good.
hitler ( you know about him, no ? ) eliminated unemployment in germany, built freeways and eliminated organized crime.
musolini, made trains to work perfectly, and also eliminated organized crime.
fidel has that that you mention, but in dictatorships you must love the government to feel happy.
Despite what you mention, cuba is a totalitarian dictatorship. The government controls EVERYTHING.
As you say, in all countries you will find people who don't like the government, but they can work freely, go where they want and the government does not bother them.
In the worst case, they can leave the country.
In OUR case, we must pretend to love fidel, because otherwise you practixcally cannot live. You end in jail, dead, or deported. |

I can tell you.
Cuba is a beautiful country with beautiful beaches, nice weather and friendly people.
There is a story that says:
God made the world and found it beautiful. He took it in His hands and kissed it and from the kiss Cuba was born.
When Cuba was born, God made it with excellent beaches, nice climate, fertile soils and no ferocious animals
Then they told God: "we fear, Lord, that when they see that wonderful land, the men will forget the paradise that has been promised"
And said God: "fear not, because in time, that land will be inhabited by men that will make life impossible to live on it"
Wonderful, they give me thumbs down. They try to silence me, exactly like in Cuba.
Oh, well, nothing new, but they told me that in the USA I could say what I think . It looks like it is the same , just propaganda |

We are a very friendly people. Our country is beautiful. It is said that when Columbus arrived to Cuba, he said: "This is the most beautiful land that human eyes ever saw"
Beardo, you forgot to add fidel in the things that you mention , besides the dancing and the partying
Just a little clarification. To somebody that say that if you give a Cuba $5 dollars they will end in his pocket, not fidel's.
Sooner or later they will, unless the guy keeps the $5 in his pocket forever .
As soon as he spends them fidel will get them |

Cuba has excellent beaches. Nice weather. And we are very friendly
The only bad thing is the government. Cuba will be much better after fidel and its little broder are in a safe place from where they cannot escape
To Tropical:
I thank you for your nice words about us and our country |

Cuba sucks.
When the Cuban Missile Crisis was over with the United States and Cuba, America cut off all trade with Cuba which destroyed their economy. Cuba used to be like China is now and America sent all their factories and Jobs there. When Cuba threatened us though we stopped trade and made going to Cuba illegal and buying things from Cuba illegal making them a third world country very quickly. That's why China would never go to war with us now, you don't bite the hand that feeds you and Cuba is a good example of that.
Cuba has good Cigars but that's it, but they are illegal to have in any country friendly with the United States.
Cuba is horrible though, their Government is INSANE and their people are miserable and poor. I would never go there. |

Hello,
I think the best of Cuba is the people. Wonderful friendly people.
Now if you care for history and culture, this is the place. La Habana is a World Heritage with hundreds of galleries, museums, castles, palaces, churches, convents, spectacular colonial buildings, avenues, monuments and nature as well. Lots and lots to see.
If you do not care about the above, just enjoy the night life, the rumba, sones and salsa Cubana, cigars, rum and the best white sand beaches in the world.
Do you need anything else to call it paradise and become one of the most important tourist destinations in the world !
Please, visit Cuba and do not let anybody tell you about it.
Best to you my friend.

Cuba is just a beautiful island. Its beauty is breathtaking and I have yet to see such clean, clear turquoise waters with powder white sand like in Cuba. The geography of the land is such beauty.
But what makes Cuba attractive and 'magnetic' is the people. And this is not just my opinion. So many people have never wanted to go anywhere else because they have made wonderful friends in Cuba...and they are genuine and they are beautiful inside and out. When you are in Cuba, wherever you are, you will find a type of warmth and generosity from the heart. Even though it is a poor country, it is not poor in heart and hospitality. It's all about QUALITY, not quantity. There is love and zest for life no matter what anyone faces in life. There is always singing and laughing all around you...you are made to feel welcome and 'at home'.
There are many other countries in the Caribbean that are supposed to be wealthier but end up being poorer and not so clean.
Cubans are clean people and they take pride in themselves and their homes/environment.
That is the reason people keep going back....it's like they just can't help themselves. I miss my friends and thankfully I am able to keep in touch with them and they in turn as well...either by phone, email or letters.
You will find a very rich and colourful culture, unlike no other place. They can tell as well if you are genuine or not...and they have self-respect and dignity. Because of life's hardships, they actually appreciate things and don't take anything for granted like others...it's a good lesson for us all.
Honestly, when you go to Cuba and you will learn so much. It won't be 'just a holiday'. It will become a part of you.
[ oh and the rum and coffee are beautiful! ;-) ] |

Cuba has the friendliest people. They have the best beach resorts in all of the carribean. It is probably one of the safest places to travel too. Where else can you spend a one week all inclusive holiday at a great resort for $700.00 or less CDN.
Maybe some people just can't afford to spend $2000 on a vacation. I have been to Cuba over 20 times and i'v noticed alot of change. There are many Cubans who do not like the government. At the same time there are those who do. Look at the United States they claim to be a Democratic free society, yet to me it's more like democratic dictatorship. Fidel is not the greatest man, yet would Cubans be better off if Baptista had continued to rule as an American puppet. If I'm not mistaken the revolution which the majority of cubans had supported was to rid the American run government out. The embargo has nothing to do with peoples right or humanitarian reasons. The embargo was putin place because Fidel embarred th USA. The Americans could not have there way and in retaliation put the embargo. Life would of been alot different even with fidel as leader had there been no embargo. I have been to other counties as well like the Dominican Republic and Mexico the residents there also hate there government, I'm Canadian and there are always people who like or dislike the current government, I;m sure its the same in the US. Americans should look at their government first. Americans have one of the most corrupt health care systems in the world. What is wrong with a social free health care like in most modern countries e.g. Canada, France, UK, Italy, and Germany. Did you Cuba has a 100% free healthcare and education sysyem. In the US even those with health care insurance don't get the proper services they require. Rember most Tourist Dollars in Cuba go to the Cuban people. If I tip a Cuban $5 for his/her service thats money in there pocket not Fidels. If you hate Cuba so much don't go there. |

i just stepped off the plane from cuba yesterday, i live in the uk
the first things that hit you are the locals, they are so friendly. in london you walk down the street your lucky to get a smile let alone intrest in where you come from and who you are. this is no ploy to gain money or tips they are just very welcoming. i went to a beach with no tourists and full of locals, we were the only white family. they smiled and waved and one man even joked if i had enough sun cream lol. they are very proud of their country and who they are :)
the beaches are too perfect, i had to pinch myself to beilve it!

I have seen many tropical islands , but Cuba is still the best.
Wonderful and kind people, Nice cities and above all brilliant Havana.
Havana was once the Paris of Latin America and has more history and
culture embedded than any other Caribbean city.

Cuba represents about 1/3 of the total land area of the Caribbean and about 1/3 of the total population - so it is a lot more than just tourist resorts and beaches.
It has a number of UNESCO world heritage sites - nine in all, including Viñales, Trinidad, the Old Havana.
Cuba is a country with history - Havana was founded almost 500 years ago - with culture - it has been the source of a number of styles of music over the years, its ballet company is highly regarded, it has many artists.
The cigars, the rum.
But for many, the best thing about Cuba is its people. The dancing, the partying. |

Cuba is very definitely a great place to go for a vacation. The beaches are terrific, the scenery fantastic, there's no shortage of activities to keep you going day and night. Cubans are proud of their country, they welcome visitors with open arms and will treat you like visiting royalty. Chances are if you go once you will return again and again. Check the sites below they contain tons of information. By the way Cuban cigars are legal everywhere except the U. S. and they are wonderful. I can buy them next door at my local convenience store here in Canada. I'm sure you can do the same in Australia. Being friendly with the U. S. has nothing to do with it. |

First let me address Ryan (above). Your answer is such a total pile of shite that I don't know where to start. What on earth do they teach you in US schools? Castro only expropriated US corporate property after they refused to pay back taxes that they had avoided paying uder the USA's pet dictator Batista. He only pronounced himself a communist & Trotskyite after the failed US invasion at the Bay of Pigs and numerous assassination attempts, since he knew that the only nation the USA was afraid of was Russia-what better ally to have on his side? And when has Cuba EVER threatened the USA???
I've been to Cuba loads of times and I am telling you straight that the people are neither miserable nor poor. There are none of the social ills that plague the USA-no homelessness, no HIV, no drug problems, nobody dies from lack of medical care, and there is little crime. Try reading a real history book instead of just rehashing whatever crap the US government tells you is fact.
Cuba is a brilliant place, completely unique. None of the usual crap (McDonalds, Starbucks, Gap etc etc), everyone is friendly and welcoming, and they live for music & dancing. Cubans are immensely proud of their little island, and to be a traveller there is a rare pleasure. Once you leave Havana, you will usually be the only backpacker around, and everyone wants to hear your story and show you their home or make you dinner or show you around their town. Sure, there are some scammers & short con operators, but that's no different to anywhere else. Just kick back with a nice Cojiba, a glass of Havana Club 7 Year, and listen to the street musicians on the Malecon. Bliss. |
