I would say Exuma....
The Exuma chain comprising about 360 or more cays, stretch for about 130 miles beginning 30 miles southeast of New Providence. It is a haven for yachtsmen and is said to be the loveliest part of The Bahamas. The beaches and sea of a large part of the Exuma Cays are being preserved by the Government under the Bahamas National Trust’s Exuma National Land and Sea Park. This comprises underwater limestone and coral reefs, drop-offs, blue holes, caves and marine life, and the last home of the Bahamian iguana, a giant lizard-like creature which once formed Exuma was permanently settled after the American Revolutionary War when many Loyalists and their slaves migrated to the island, setting up cotton plantations which flourished for a brief time.
Exuma’s capital, Georgetown was once suggested to be the capital of The Bahamas because of its famous Elizabeth Harbour, which has a draft of 16 feet and aided in the development of Great Exuma and probably made Exuma a favourite haunt for pirates. Since the 1950s, the harbour has been the site of the world renowned Family Island Regatta – the race of Bahamian-made sailboats.
Exuma has beauty –the Land and Sea Park, isolated sandy cays and marvelous views from the hills of Rolleville, Rolle Town and The Ferry. It has history – the remains of the plantations at Williams Town, the ancient tombs at Rolle Town and at Moss Town. It also, offers recreation to swimmers boaters, fishermen, snorkelers and sailors.

It depends on what you like to do, and how much you can spend, respectively. The most popular islands are New Providence (Nassau)/Paradise Island and Grand Bahama Island. Nassau and Paradise Island are by far the more popular, with a wider range of accommodations.
If you want something more secluded, you can look at some of the outer islands, like Exuma and Eleuthera. Resorts there tend to be more exclusive and more expensive.
What the best resort will be for you in any of the islands will depend on how much you can spend, and what kind of amenities you're expecting.
Feel free to e-mail me if you want me to help you plan your trip.

It depends on what you are looking for.
On Paradise Island, Atlantis is impressive but staying there is like being in Las Vegas. Yes, the slides are cool but if you have young children they are not allowed on the big slides until a certain height. It is a huge hotel with several separate towers, a big casino, man-made salt water pools for fish & rays that don't smell to good and tons of overweight Americans.
Down the road from Atlantis is The Ocean Club which is beautiful. There is a great restaurant, gorgeous grounds and has a nice beach. The owner of Atlantis bought it recently so I hope he has kept the charm.
There is lots of duty-free shopping and small markets just over the bridge.
If you just want to relax go to Harbour Island. It's a small island at the tip of Eleuthera with great houses to rent on the beach or lots of smaller hotels. Pink Sands is a good one, so are Coral Sands & Rock House. They all have good restaraunts too. The main town of Dunmore is full of little shops and restaraunts. Ma Ruby's is good for local fare or The Landing.
Eleuthera is a 10 minute boat ride away if you want to explore. |

My personal choice if you like the laid back, relaxed, not crowded climate is hopetown on elbow cay in the abacos. There isnt alot to do so thats why I mentioned the relaxed climate. Snorkling is great and you can get a beach all to yourself without much trouble. The downside is almost EVERYTHING is closed on Sunday for religious reasons. A very good spot in the Bahamas. |
