What's the cheapest place to live in the Caribbean?

Preferably in a slightly rural, remote area... with nice views, of course.
Thanks.

Bajan Princess =]
well the caribbean is not general a really cheap place as much as before so u will get an isand that is cheaper than another but that does not mean that it is cheap(if u get what im saying).

Also, the cheaper island may not be the safest one but try Guyana, St.Vincent,St.Lucia and dominica.

Good luck. =]

On a holiday in Belize a few years ago, I meet some retirees in Belize from Texas who explained how affordable it is to live there on their pension. They were by no means well off, but able to retire in Belize.

Haiti? Guyana? Perhaps some of the smaller islands of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines or Grenada? (which are still off the main beaten path.)

The adage: "You get what you pay for" is definitely warranted. The Caribbean is moving in the direction of being a safe retirement zone for elderlies... so you'll be competing against retires with lots of money. This has made prices in the Caribbean soar to be pretty much what they are in the United States or Europe.

Supply and demand.

Go to beautiful Montserrat. It's got lush green forests, a volcano and a FABULOUS WHITE SAND BEACH that is uncrowded.. AND... it's the CHEAPEST PLACE TO LIVE in the CARIBBEAN.

Excuse me while I light my splif
Jah man u cee we jah reeal jamacian pure ja see, come to jamaica bless up!

Highly Favoured
The cheapest place is probably where you can get lots of exchange for your money. I must be a place that the land, food, utility bills, housing material and services are cheap. The land, wood and maybe food in Guyana is cheap. I do not know about the views. You might be able to get these things in Jamaica cheap too because of the exchange rate. Dominican Republic villas and houses are reasonable too based on what I see on HGTV. Some of the apartments there have nice views.

You can live cheap anywhere even if the destination is expensive. You just have to economize, buy the necessary things and buy in bulk. They say that Barbados is a luxurious destination but I live here and still get through.
