My father used to "save up" licks. He giving yuh enough rope whole week. He had a broad leather belt that he used to call "Betsy".
Yuh know the time leading up to Divali does have Ramleela, well my best friend in primary school telling me she and she family going to ramleela, so yuh gyul devise ah plan (because ah know if ah ask the answer is no). Long time is one good dress yuh have, yuh sunday best and everyday special, mine just happen to be ah orange dress. So the plan was to sneak round d house and run out the gate when they reach my house and blend in with everybody, in ah orange dress. Well I did go and came home late.
Daddy open the door fuh me and nex ting is WADDAP..........No questions.......Betsy in meh @ss, hear nah is like ah see the whole galaxy in front ah meh. But ah have good bad mind eh so ah eh bawling at all, and because ah eh giving him the satisfaction ah bawling he beating meh harder, till he hand obviously get tired. Hear me..... "yuh done"????,
Well is like Betsy get vex and call out all she family fuh re-enforcement.........now ah getting licks fuh bad mind...........when the licks finally stop, ah go in meh bed easy easy and put meh face in the pillow and BAWLLLLLLLLLL

Lemme see now...when ah was 11 ah was supposed to be eating luch in school but ah duck out an went wit meh fren limin all ova de place. Well, ah get away wit it a few times then one day meh nosy bony **** aunt was in de market an she see meh, call meh modda and tell she. So de next day, mom playing Columbo or somebuddy and hiding round de corna from school, behind tree and all kinna ting. She see meh leave but she ent stop meh yuh know; she follow me! Was well takin notes and ting. So when ah get home she acting quiet an ting but me eh know wha goin on...until Daddy reach home, come in meh room with he face like tunda and he leather belt in he hand...he didn't have tuh say a word while he was lashing me cuz mom was outside doin all de commentary like she wukkin fuh cable and wireless or sumtin...

De odda one was like yuh own...mom gettin on meh case to dust de bedrooms and ting right after she tell me tuh get dong tuh meh studies (not even five minutes pass eh) and ah went off grumblin why she couldn make up she mind and ent de maid comin just now so why we payin she at all if is I doin all de wuk etc and she hear me. next ting ah know ah tun rong and was introduced to de cocoyea broom one time!

Have more...but ah didn't realise was so many til now nuh!

(oh yeah and de classic one when we was about eight and was climblin de tamarind tree by meh cousins and meh brudda was nagging he want tuh climb too. So all de adults bawlin at me tuh help him and me tinking dis child is a pest fuh true...and den when de rest ah we went tuh get down ah leave he whiny as$ up in de tree...talk bout givin licks tuh set a precedent!

I get licks with a alpagat for teefing sweatbread.
Licks with de pot spoon for breaking biche. (Meh parents did know I was out of school before lunch)
Embarassed and cut tail with belt for going out after de Lady ban meh tail. (It was the fete of de season, ah HAD to go!)
Clout up for making monkey face at meh sista.
LOUD and SERIOUS licks after ah did loose meh report book and de principal bawl "either come here tomorrow with dat report book or yuh parents' and Jouv in infinite wisdom HANDWROTE a note from my "aunt" saying my parents had moved to Tobago indifinitely (yeah, bright eh?) only to be walking home dat same evening to see my father engaged in a loud, arm waving chat with said school principal. Talk bout CUT@SS!

Lowwwddddd licks. Meh modda did try tuh beat meh, but ah use tuh run all ova de house and she coulda never find meh. It was a time ah run in de room with meh brodda and sisters dem and ah curl up like ah was de pillow, trying not tuh make a sound; she eh know ah was dey. Ah eh really get licks growing up, meh fadda eh want dat, but ah sure do remember two HARD slap ah get, from meh fadda self. Meh Aunt and cousins come fuh holidays and everybody was talking good good and ah come and siddong in de middle of de floor and ah eh remember what dem was talking about, but ah well remember meh responding 'so' and SLAP on meh face. He asking if ah have respect, why ah back-talking....meh fadda say someting else and who tell meh tuh answer. Ah say so. Nexx SLAP; same side of de face as de fuss one. And he hann heavy too. Gosh. Ah have fair skin and ah know it make an imprint too. Ah learn meh lesson one time yes.

Dais de only time too when he send meh upstairs. Cry crying up de stairs and about half an hour lata meh cousin come troubling meh and ah eh want tuh hear from he and meh fadda bawling from dongstairs fuh meh tuh leave he alone. If yuh know how vex ah dey...all of dat on de same day. Dais de only time ah remember really getting licks, but de most memorable one ah get.

i was in junior high and came home early from school my mom was getting dasheen bush to cook so i hid behind these welding tanks my dad has in the garage when i saw her coming i jumped out and shouted rahhhhhhhhhhh she beat me with the dasheen bush until my uniform got stained i was killing myself laughing with tears and snaut running down 2 hours after still laughing and now typing this i am laughing again yeah that was my most memorable licks

well my most memorable licks was not really of me gettin was of my sister.... she gone back chattin to my mom an she get pelt down with ah rollin pin...lmao

when i had now started primary school in abc catch ah crab... I went to dis school in rio claro where my dad was a teacher.... back in d day snacks was cheap so check yuh gyal gone in d parlour next to d school an tell d lady..."tanty u know who my daddy is.... he say to give me some snacks an he go pay for it later".

I run up ah snacks bill for $65, dat was plenty money to be workin for back then eh...20 yrs ago. Well i didnt tell daddy nothing, eat out d snacks an 2 days later d parlour lady come tellin my daddy he hav a bill to settle.... talk bout licks! I get licks an buff from rio claro str8 to Princes Town...lol

Any of my friends come home by us mammy does tell dat story!

Being rude to my father and as he started to hit me I ran outside the house into a 7 feet hole (renovations were being done) of course ah cyar climb out and he cyar hit meh since ah crouch down! Unfortunately I lost my nike earrings in that piece of drama!

Well dis time all i cud say was i never used to get licks like allyuh. I was mammy best behaved chile.(what she eh know eh go hurt she ...rite?)
Yuh see there is an art in doing yuh ting, i know meh parents had REAL macos out dey so yuh have to adjust yuh game to suit. Den again i was ah good chile growing up (allyuh sold on dat idea yet ?)
But Miss Friggy yuh eh easy at all at all, despite all dem cutaS$ yuh eh change.

i done tell allyuh aready, i was real harden, and i get realllll licks. full stop. my grand mother used to 'store up' we cuttail, so when she beat we, it was always memorable! lol. boy and dat ooman was good, coulda pelt round corners and ****. doh feel that yuh coulda run out d door and get away nah, wha ever she had in she hand used to come out d door and round d corner after yuh dred.

and coulda beat yuh with knife, for some reason she used to always be in d kitchen when she sharing licks, so d first thing used to get in she hand was d knife. lol.

ohhh, hear this one eh.... meh cousin and me did ask meh grandmother if we coulda go by d neighbour to play, and she tell we no, bout how d neighbour does never send she children by us, she always want we to come by she. so me and meh cousin decide to run way and go none d less. I was about 8 and meh cousin 5. see we running up d track to go by d neighbour and bam! meh cousin s to fall an end up brucking out she two front teeth. lol. boyyyyyyyyyyy. both ah we end up getting licks for that one. and she hadda stay without teeth until she was about 8. lol.
