I was unable to enjoy Cuba. Look past the 1950's cars and the music and you'll see that the people are struggling. There is no food on the shelves. How can you enjoy yourself when people are going through such tough times in a country so blessed with natural resources? How can you enjoy yourself when you are surrounded by so much social injustice, caused be political stubborness on both sides of the Florida straits? The people are just pawns. I've been lucky enough to travel alot but Cuba left a really bad taste in my mouth. If you have a social conscience you will not enjoy Cuba.

America is very biased against Cuba. They do not want you to know the truth. If you did Caribbean history you would know how much horribble things the U.S have done in the Caribbean especially Cuba. They caused the destruction of their ties between Cuba. The constant invasions in the Caribbean trying to take over. There was the Bay of Pigs Invasion in Cuba where the U.S tried to take over Cuba once again unsucessfully. They sent CIA agents to Jamica in the 1980's to stir up turmoil during the election. They told lies on Cuba to say they had nuclear weapons. You need to read some Caribbean History. Visit Cuba. They have always harassed Fidel. He is not a bad country. He does wat is best for his country.

I've been to Cuba twice and we are going again in March.

The people are very friendly and can't do enough for you. It is true that the people do not make a lot of money working at their regular jobs but in their off time most work in areas that attract tourists and do quit well on the tips they make. Everyone, working or not receives a cheque from the government which only provides enough for food for the month. I have never seen an unhappy Cuban in Cuba.

Education and medical is free and their standards for both are better than the US or Canada.

Castro has done an excellent job with his country considering the embargo. There are several countries that assist Cuba in setting up industry to help the people. Not all countries that do this are communist. I see the Canadian, Spanish, and Swedish flags at some of these projects.

When Cuba and the US were on friendly terms, the mob ran quit a business there. Land had been bought up at a cheep price and lots of people were put out of work. When Castro took over, he booted everyone that wasn't Cuban out and gave the land back to the farmers and closed all the casinos.

There is very little crime there and people have no fear of political talk. Most speak highly of Fidel.

I have met some people from the US in Havana and they just loved the place and the people. You have to go there to get the real picture of the place, it's politics and the history.

I go to Cuba alone and rent a tiny apartment next to a mango treetop. I visit and spend my days alone in an inland town where I have always felt secure.

This time I joined a tai chi class in the park 3 times a week- in the back row where we cracked up every time we got it wrong. I used the library, hung out at the market and had the best hamburgers ever for lunch. This time I went in June, the rainy season and enjoyed a front seat at a tropical cyclone.

I speak some Spanish and people in Cuba are very patient. I can't wait to go back. The local tourist office helped me find the " casa particular" where I stayed, and helped with questions. I travelled on a package tour, just paying the plane fare.

To the message below: Cuba is like a country at war because of the US blockade. In spite of this, there is universal free medicare, unlimited - to PHD if you pass,- education, affordable live theatre and a cheerful attitude by all the people I met.

The most important industry is tourism, as it is difficult to import much past the blockade. It is possible to visit Cuba with minimum exposure to the comparative poverty by taking your custom to the hotels and resorts on the coast. Even if you can't bear to see less well off people, your business is appreciated.

Viva Fidel...!!! The world needs more Fidel's!!!! He has done great things for his people.... unlike the US that only thinks of ways to make $$$$ and going to war with every single country that doesn't live by US rules,.... .... like the US rules are the best..... they are the worst and the world hates the US... it's so obvious!

I’ve made eight trips to Cuba and love it. The country is beautiful, mountains, beaches, farms etc. Likewise, the Cubans they are immensely proud of their country and although very poor they would give you the shirt off their backs. They love Castro and honour Che, you will see their pictures everywhere. Should you go be sure to visit Havana, it’s wonderful. Forget what the American government preaches about Cuba, go with an open mind. You will meet lots of nationalities, Germans, Dutch, Swiss, Finns, in short there rest of the world other than many Americans. I plan on returning for my ninth visit in December. One couple I met last year were on their 35th visit go once, you’ll be back. Castro certainly isn’t perfect but I’ll guarantee George Bush has killed more innocent Iraqis in four years than Castro has killed in forty.

I have never been there being American and we are not supposed to go to Cuba. From what I have read it sounds like a place I might want to visit, very different from the states, slower paced, I hear the people are very nice. I hear its a destination for many Canadians and Europeans.

I think once Castro Dies one of the first things they will do is patch things up with the US and this will open Cuba up to more US tourism. The information I read about Castro made it sound more like he allied Cuba with the Soviets for two reasons, one being the aid they would give him and the second just to piss off the US government.

There have been changes over the last years in Cuba moving a bit away from the Communist ways but being a very poor country, small and not a lot of exports they rely on aid from other countries and the communist countries have been the ones offering the aid. (see Venezuela)

Due to a large population of Cuban exiles who still have family there and the need for aid and close proximity to the US I think its just a matter of time before Havanna is a tourist destination as popular as Las Vegas or Central Florida.
