What Currency to take with me? ?

I know its proberly been asked alot but im going to Dom Rep next August for two weeks and was wondering what currency to take over with me?
Some people are saying dollars whilst others are saying pesos? Could someone shed some light on the subject please.

Also how much (GBP) would you recommend taking for two weeks all inclusive? Im thinking about £1000.

Cheers
Andy

You should use your British bank credit card for as many things as possible. Your bank will always give you a better rate than exchanging foreign currencies in a foreign country. Sometimes the exchange rate is down-right thievery! especially at the airport exchange
When you get home, you pay your own bank.

For little things, take a few dollars or pounds, and exchange them at your big hotel.

I would take US Dollars because it is a reputable Exchange Bank Note
not only in the Caribbean but throughout the World.

i would also say peso, but whenever travelling overseas it is a good idea to have some american dollars on you. why dont you buy some travellers checks?

Domincan republic has their own currency, the dominican peso (DOP)

As of today (11/27/2008):

1 British Pound = 55.19293 Dominican R. Peso
1 Dominican R. Peso (DOP) = 0.01812 British Pound (GBP)

Hope this helps!

Take dollars they go farther, pesos are near worthless. I went to DR a few years ago and everyplace accepted dollars, some merchants even preferred it. I had a few pesos that were given to me as change and I couldn't buy anything with them, not even an ice cream cone.

I have no idea how much you should take, but read the Wikipedia article on the currency:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dominican_peso

Also, http://www.xe.com/ has the most up-to-date exchange rates available. With the global economy the way it is, you'll probably have a really great exchange rate.

Andrew, I just returned from Punta Cana unfortunately, I suggest you take US $ make sure you have ample credit on your credit card. One of the banks called ,Poplar or something like that, I found them not to be helpful. Scottia was good, the service was excellent. As for your hotel, we found if we left a couple of Dollar notes and some candy it was appreciated very much by our housekeeping lady.

"Warning" don't get sick, watch what you eat and drink, I should know I was just discharged from 8 days of isolation and both arms looking worse than a junkies arms, off the aircraft and straight into hospital.

You will need to get Dominican republic peso's. I can not help you on how much money to take for two weeks. What you do and how nice of time you plan on having will dictate that.

be an individual take rupia
