the first legends of jamaica were the taino indians aka arawaks who were the first inhabitants of jamaica before the spanish came in 1494 and who were living on the island for at least 10,000 years.

the maroons, excaped slaves of cockpit country and the blue mountains 1690's - on.... and the morrons still exist in jamaica:
Granny of the morrons, Cuffee, Cudjoe and Quao

strike for emancipation during christmas week 1831:
samuel 'daddy' sharpe
edward jordon

morant bay rebellion 1865:
paul bogle
james maclaren
george william gordon

other jamaican legends:
marcus garvey
alexander bustamante
norman manley
michael manley
edward seaga
donald sangster

and of course, the man that Jah blessed, skippy aka
bob marley!!!
jimmy cliff
this is just some that i know, and my jamaican peeps can add much more to this list for sure.

and P.S.
the white witch of rose hall is a myth... not true at all, no documents exsist from the era to support that legend, none. it just made for good reading.... sorry to bust anyones bubble on that fact. bob marley is a legend, the white witch is a celebrity.

Jerk chicken was first made by escaped slaves who were living wild in the hills, they found that by marinating the meat in pimentos, chillis and spices they found around the place and that then by smoking the meat for a long time that the meat tasted good and lasted much longer before going off. This legend is still alive and living well in an oil drum next to any main road in JA. Also you can import this legend to your kitchen or barbeque, very rewarding!

There is a Jamaican Legend about a white witch named Annie Palmer. The white witch of Rose Hall. You can go to her house in Jamaica. It's very scary. My cousin told me there's a bucket there that when you pick it up it's really heavy but there's nothing in it.
