I grew up with my grandmother and she had 4 girl children so she was used to having them do everything for her. Well it was only one of me and a 3 bedroom house to clean. I had to make sure my room was clean before i left for school, when i got back home i had to wash dishes that ms. lady left in the sink piled up all day( from breakfast). On the weekend i had lessons saturday morning at 9 and the entire house had to be clean before i leave to go in town, and of course clean sneakers and put it in the sun to dry. On Sunday was the same headache only it was church at 9 and i had to clean before that too. To tell u the truth the only thing my grandmother did ( and she was young eh, like 56 when i was living wit her) was wash on a saturday and cook. I did EVERYTHING. The funny thing is that now im so lazy and i think its becuz of all the hard work i did when i lived wit her( for the first 16 yrs of my life)
hmm so much chores- dusting, mopping, sweeping, making beds, cleaning the yard, washing dishes, OH LAWD doh mention christmas time when they rearranging the entire house...dat was wuk yes lord

Girl all I had to do was keep meh blasted room clean. And Christmas time yuh know is paint, clean, and I doing that for home and meh grand-mother house.

When I got older daddy teach meh how to cook so no woman could make style on meh.

Meh cousins and them use to live Maracus and I did love going up dey because yuh get to tote water and bath in rain.

Everybody hated doing dishes but I didn't have to "Do Dishes"...

EVERY SINGLE DAY like gospel before ah leave home fuh school dem wares hadda wash.
An' hear nah... yuh see my modda pot dem... it hadda scrub wid red soap red sand an brillo until dem pot shine and up till today dat is still de case

But girl... I still remember de feel of dem brillo prickles when it stick on meh finger

Before dat when I was about 7/8 dey... de ting dat use tuh plague me so was cleaning de stove...
Oh Jesus... ah use tuh have tuh take out every mark from we Consol... an back in dem times jif an cif an all de tings dey have dese days was a luxury so it was Mr Red sand and Squeezy

And oh god doze christmas woes!!

Ah was too small tuh get de opportunity tuh beat the cake batter so meh sister dem had was tuh do dat but not too small tuh polish dem floors like ah stupid... an cobweb wit a cocoyea broom an we had to put white wash on all dem big stone in front de house study!!!
When ah got older... the seeming joys of mixing cake batter left...
I prayed dat my modda woulda buy a mixer.

I hated cleaning up the dog poop in the yard, and the dusting. My mom had doilies and knick knacks everywhere that had to be moved -I wouldn't dare cleaning around them.

I HATED doing dishes! Still hate doing them. I was a good child but when it came to the dishes my grandma would say I spent more energy avoiding it than it actually took to do it.

Sweep, wit a blasted cocyea broom dat always fallin apart, iron (one time meh mom geh meh vex cuz I was watchin meh favorite tv show and she call meh tuh iron somethin fuh she, and I get vex, cuz she was disturbin meh show, so I bunn she outfit she was goin & wear (not fuh spite, but I was tryin tuh watch d show & iron at d same time... talk bout licks).. hang up clothes, which I hated tuh do, and I always used tuh get boof cuz I neva used tuh hang dem rite..

Before I turned 12 yrs, I hated EVERYTHING! After that, washing wares was avoided at all cost.

My favourite to this day, is scrubbing the toilet.

1. Washing wares
2. Putting away those wares
3. Cleaning lourves - newsapers must be used to shine them!
4. Cleaning the block holes (whats the use)
5. Polishing the furniture (stinky smelling polish - three times a year!)
6. The fridge was mines to defrost (I damaged two of dem before my parents bought the non frost kind)
7. Oh and washing all the vision pot sets, pyrex dishes, glass kettles, drinking glasses, champagne glasses, dinnerware and the whole lot of my parents collection - which dey doh use daily - but must wash at least twice a year)
8. Hanging out clothes (which is why I bought a dryer as soon as I began to work)

I HATED cleaning and polishing the silver and brass. Every Christmas the entire china hutch (which of course held much more than china) had to empty so we could clean Mommy's things.
Not that ANYBODY was going in there to see if de silver and ting smudge up eh. Out came the Silvo and Brasso and ten thousand rags. Wipe, wipe, wipe. Polish, polish, polish. And doh get none on de lady floor yuh know!
Fumes killing meh! She only bawling, "dat eh polish good nah!"
Did I fail to mention how I HATED cleaning silver and brass???

Gibbsy-a di same ting mi did haffi do as a youth. i hated every moment of it. washing dishes, clean di stove, sweep di floor, mop di floor...only to have my madda inspect the kitchen an if she nuh like it...mi did haffi do it again lol. dat was the worst part but it was worth it. dats why we west indians are so clean and di yankee dem naffi do nuthin an wan chat bout 'slave' work. lazy bumbahole dem....

I feel for you. I too was the victim of a cleanfreak Mom.
Everyday we had to sweep floors, vacuum. Always had dishes too wash and dry. Couldn't let them air dry. Had to set the table the night before, for breakfast. Make lunches the night before. Every Sunday we had to wipe and polish all shoes. Ironing, we had stand scarfs back then, had to starch them. We ironed teeshirts and underwear. And we couldn't go anyplace on Saturday till the cleaning was done.
Mopped on hands and knees. Never owned a mop.
The only thing Mom did all herself was washing clothes. For some reason we couldn't mess with the washer. But, we helped with the dryer. AHHHHHHH!!!

hear nah, allyuh feel we parents related?
i hated washing wares, and still do, i avoid it at all cost, and meh cousins dem know that, so dey used to wait till ah almost done to find some piece ah dutty something to bring to wash, nothing didnt use dto piss me off so.

and sweeping the yard with ah coceyea broom, and only have ah few broom stick...geezan. and of course meh grandmother or meh grandfather had to tell yuh how to sweep dey yard. the flecking yard was packed sand, ah sweeping it until it clean, no dey want yuh sprinkle the yard with water, so yuh dont raise d dust, and den sweep it, and then pack the sand that yuh sweep in the little hole on d side ah d yard.

Now allyuh, dont get me wrong eh, but why yuh hadda cook 3 times ah day? meh grandmother was diabetic, and used to get up 5:30 in d morning, but why she hadda eat by 6am??? ah hadda get up make d sada roti, find something to cook with it, make tea for everybody in d blasted house, and when ah done wash up all d kissmetail wares. den ah cleaning the house. and by 10 she asking meh what ah cooking for lunch. BUT THEY JUST DONE EAT, THEY HUNGRY AREADY?!?!!?! so ok, ah cook lunch before 12:00 cause dey hadda eat in time for when young and ressless start at 12:00, wash the wares, again!!! and what ever other chores that i ent get done, and 3pm she go ask, what ah making for dinner? so ah make more sada roti, and something else to go with that, and more tea., and still wash up d wares.

but off d food. i really hated cleaning d furniture for christmas, and all the wares that just there for style, y yuh have the wares if yuh ent going to use it? but den yuh going and take down all ah it and wash it for christmas? who going and see it? who cares? as long as yuh have black cake and alco, dey ent care what else yuh have

oh gosh i read some dere and it reminded me.i hate to clean cuz i think if i was living by myself i wudnt have all that cleaning to do.
i doh have to use cocoyea broom but i doh even like normal yard broom.when my fadder done mow the lawn,my mother want us to rake the grass.i used to and still think that if the cut grass blade there on the lawm,why we have to rake it?it camouflaging with the rest of the lawn
then i have to clean my sink,the face basin.that not too bad but oh gosh when i was younger it was scrubbing the bathroom.OH HOW I HATE THAT!! my mudder used to spray it with clorox,wait a while and then tell us go scrub it so we there inhaling bleach while we on we hands and knees.
well dishes i get so accustomed to that it come like a relaxing period.i just stand there and take my trime but i hate scrubbing pots.i does ask my mother why she have to burn thing!
i doh like christmas time for the work.oh gosh.i hate scrubbing plant pot.down to christmas eve my mother had us doing work.yuh so tired on christmas day and yuh wonder what was it all for.i like the christmas tree but i doh like to undecorate it....jeez man

we had to wash the dishes in the bar/hutch,shine silverware,wash alllll the dishes and i used to tell myself "but nobody using them"
