San Juan being a caribbean metropolis and the capital city of Puerto Rico has its advantages and disadvantages as any big city. Depends what you need/want. I like Cayey since it is a nice city in the mountain region but a modern city at the same time and 40 mnute drive from San Juan. |

I am from a town called Aibonito, housing is cheaper and the place and the weather are fresh and beautiful. Lot of mountains, rivers and gorgeous views, not a lot of nightlife, but in 45-50 minutes you can be in San Juan. |

I would suggest Arecibo.
I used to live in Aguada, the travelings to San Juan can be congested. |

please...don't listen to these people.
the best places, in this order: condado (high-rises, cool restaurants and bars), old san juan (nice, old houses), santurce (more diverse and urban), punta las marias/isla verde (farther away but nice and close to the beach) |
