Whether you're a beginner, an expert or anywhere in between, you can find a suitable location for your skill level.
Novices can take advantage of the gentler winds and abundance of equipment and instructors along the island's southern shore, and advanced students and experts have a choice of any number of prime locations along the northern and southeastern coasts.
Every year in June, Aruba hosts the Hi-Winds Amateur World Challenge windsurfing tournament. This ten-day competition attracts the most competitive professional windsurfers and hundreds of amateurs to the island of Aruba. See The Aruba Hi-Winds Website for details.

The offshore waters offer visibility up to 100 feet and 42 major dive sites provide an amazing variety of underwater activity. Explore wrecks sunk during World War II from 25 to 400 feet deep. Or stay closer to the surface and still enjoy the beauty of the coral formations and the adventure of the wreck sites. The water averages around 78 degrees (F) year round and teems with sea life including manta rays, barracuda, and the rare green moray.
If you're a novice, you can take a Resort Certification scuba diving course, either before your trip or after arriving on the island. If you already have your Open Water Certification, Aruba is ready and waiting.
Snorkel
Everyone can snorkel. However there are a few basic safety rules. The most important rule to remember is: Never touch coral!
Good snorkeling spots include Arashi beach, Boca Grandi, Baby Beach and many more. Gear can be rented at watersports centers along the hotel area. There are several tours that combine sailing and snorkeling.
On the island, diving and snorkeling excursions can be arranged through the following operators:

Swimming
The beaches on the southern, leeward coast have soft, sparkling white sand. The clear, calm, turquoise waters of Palm Beach, Eagle Beach, Druif Beach, Baby Beach and Rodgers Beach are safe to swim in any time of day, any day of the year. There are also several hidden little bays around the island, as well as the Conchi, or natural pool, near Arikok. In general, however, the Atlantic side of the island is wild and often treacherous. Please ask your hotel about safety before planning to swim anywhere other than the main beach areas.
Jet Skis (WaveRunners)
The smooth seas of the south and west coasts are perfect for both beginners and experienced skiers. Jet skis are restricted to certain areas. Please ask your hotel for details.

Horseback riding in the sand dunes. Absolutely one of the most wonderful outdoor experiences I have ever had traveling.
Sitting poolside is always wonderful there because of the tradewinds. I didn't enjoy the beach because the winds kick up the sand.
Also, I found renting an open air jeep and driving the marked roads on the beach was fun, too.
I'm not keen on the nightlife. Watch your drinks. I'm not surprised someone was able to spike Miss Holloway's drink and carry her away. Never leave let your drink out of your hand. Don't drink the punch on the big party boats. And, don't let the casinos fill you with their "free" cheap booze. If possible, get a beer and watch the bartender open the bottle in front of you. Of course, these tips are true in any tourist area where people are getting drunk. And, yet I was especially suspicious of these activities in Aruba the three or four times I was there -- and this was far in advance of Natalee's disappearance. |

They have great beaches. I highly recommend the Flying Fishbone for a romantic dinner. We also did SNUBA diving and it was awesome. They have a great cigar bar called Garafu's--I think that is how it is spelled. There is plenty of nightlife and clubs downtown. I love the island and am going again next week. |

Nothing! Absolutely nothing...just sit on the beach and let those trade winds cool you off.
The sunsets are beautiful, too. If you can stop doing nothing for an hour or two, try to get to the California lighthouse 30 minutes or so before sunset, great sunset views there.
Have fun. |

My hubby and I have been to Aruba many times and have always enjoyed it. Some of our best memories of the island include...
Snorkeling at Baby Beach - make sure to buy a disposable underwater camera.
Atlantis Submarines Aruba
Exploring the island ourselves, but don't go off road unless you have a real Jeep.
Learning some history of the island and it's people while there. Go horse riding, play golf, see the lighthouses and the natural bridge.
We've enjoyed many of the restaurants on the island, many of them are US chain restaurants you'll be familiar with (Outback, Tony Roma's, etc.)
Casinos, but we had plenty of fun w/out wasting money there, we blew our money at the Seaport Mall in downtown Oranjestad.
Aruba is all about making their visitors feel at home. Whatever your interests are you'll be able to find something enjoyable to pass your time! If nothing else just sit by the pool and nap in the sun.
Be sure to go for a walk and see the iguanas (ask the locals why they are missing their tails) that run wild and the other colorful little lizards.
One last little tip...if you do happen to visit downtown Oranjestad make CERTAIN not to leave any belongings in your vehicle. Our Jeep was broken into in Oranjestad, thieves watch for tourists to leave bags and belongings in cars...that's what we were told. A local boy followed "our" thief but the police still didn't find him. It's still a wonderful place and we've gone back since that happened...and will again! |

We Had a great time riding horses up the mountains and through the water. It was a ball. The natural bridge is very unusual. We also felt adventuresome and toured the caves.... it was scary but glad to say we did it. Something like those caves would never be legal in the states because you go alone without a guild and it's mostly down hill and deep in the caves. You need lights they can be rented. Make sure you have sneakers for that trip. We also toured the Aloe Plant which was real interesting considering the size of the operation and they have only about 12 employees. The products are wonderful. The light house is also an interesting attraction. Have fun. Also there's a restaurant down from the Holiday Inn that cooks on Lava stones and the food is wonderful. |

Plan a half day trip to The Palm Island. Great snorkeling. Make sure you go to Marina Pirata Restaurant also. The quaintest, loveliest, most romantic little place you'll ever visit. Best seafood, Arubian style. Charming service. You can ask your cabbie to take you. |
