Beautiful Disaster

What are the exact limitations on Americans traveling into Cuba?

As an American with a US passport or a permanent resident with a green card, you are in violation of US law if you go to Cuba without a specific license issued by OFAC/Dept. State.

People do get caught despite the elaborate travel itineraries; the reason most people get away with it is because the fed doesn't have enough man power to go after everyone. Penalties can be high if you get caught and the fed has been cracking down.

It used to be you could go without a license if you were "fully hosted" meaning you went and didn't spend a single penny, but that has changed.

I would check www.cbp.gov for more info if I were you.

Go to Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic and get a tourist card from there, book a flight and then fly from there to Havana. Do not go through Canada or Nassau, which is where many US citizens get caught. Don't bother applying for permission from the US government to go, since they rarely grant it nowawdays. Try cubalinda.com or allwaystravelling.com.

You can't get there from here.

While in Havana I met two guys from New York. Being Canadian I was curious as how they managed to get to Cuba. They had gone through Toronto, changed US money to Canadian and once in Cuba changed money to the Cuban Peso. You only show your passport for ID. Cuba dose not stamp your passport because they do not want you to get into trouble with your country. You will be given a visa from the travel agent you deal with in Canada. This will allow you entry and exit to and from Cuba.

Check the US Sate Separt site.. they have all the info needed for traveling everywhere..

You can't "pretend" to be Canadian! You have a US Passport right? Of course....anyways. Hopefully what they were trying to say is this...you buy a round trip ticket from the US to Canada. Then you buy a 2nd ticket from Canada to Cuba.

LOL @ Pretend to be Canadian............

I've heard that if you fly to dominican republic or any other country in central america and then go into cuba they don't stamp your passport, anyone can go in as a tourist!!

Actually the US has an economic embargo on Cuba. US citizens can go there, but you can't spend money there. See the catch?
