What are three changes that Fidel Castro brought to Cuba?

Show all answers

Don Camilo
Well, as we said at the beginning of the revolution: "he turned Batista into a Saint". Because the crimes he committed were so many, so horrible and so heinous, that those that Batista committed were pale and minimal in comparison

The three changes were
1 - comunism
2 - comunism
3 - comunism

Comunism covers EVERYTHING !

NOTE:
I didn't want to say anything else, but it seems that this has become a political debate, without useful conclusions.

Let's see, since we have too much heat in the opinons, I shall try to play the unbiased mediator.

I will try to answer to your statements with facts.
Health and education are two positive things about fidel's regime, right.
But a characteristic of dictatorships is that they ALWAYS HAVE SOMETHING GOOD.
Hitler built expressways and eliminated unemployment in Germany. Musolini made train to function on time.
Both eliminated the organized crime in their countries.

Still, they are commonly associated with a negative label, because the bad things they did were many more than the good ones

fidel was more astute and chose a much more dramatic element, health and education

What you say about Cuba being a propsperous country for those with ties to Batista and the mafia is a very plain insult.
If I talk about this, it would be in similar insulting terms and I don't want to do that.

You say that the question was "three changes fidel brought, not 10 ways fidel f Cuba up"
I will answer this with your own words in reverse.

It was not either "three GOOD things that fidel bring"

To answer the question, we must include good AND bad things. Otherwise we would give a twisted, biased, and totally erroneus point of view

That means including the 100 ways in which fidel f up Cuba as well.

Ah, I like this one.
Oh, yes, you are completely allowed to have an opinion.

No, in Cuba the only opinion we can have is the one of the Comandante. Any other you can have in Miami or in the tank

About bush, in the usa the custom is to put the president to dry. Nobody expects otherwise.
But fidel is not bush.
About Trujillo, he died a long time ago, and people don't care about what anyone say about him.

Same about Stalin, Hitler, Mao, Musolini, etc. They are ALL dead and nobody cares about what somebody can say about them.

After you experience a culture ( I don't think that has been your case, but well ) read about, oh, yes, you can express an opinion. Absolutely.

But

If you are a nazi, or a member of the KKK, or a skin head, again, you can express an opinion. True

But

Would you go to Harlem to express your nazi, racist ideas ?
I doubt it

Would you go to the Jewish comunity to express your nazi ideas about the Jews being involved in a conspiracy and therefore, they should be exterminated ?

I doubt it

Would you go to the gay community to express homophobic ideas ?

I doubt it

And as far as I see, you are now expressing your opinions against people who have suffered fidel's tyranny and pretend they swallow it meekly

That is totally unjustifiable and inhumane

You want to build a shrine to fidel ? Fine. Do it. You can do it
But don't push it against the Jew...sorry against the Cuban community.
That totally uncalled for

As some people have said:
1 - repression
2 - poverty
3 - desperation

Oh, the experts that know more about Cuba than us. Amazing !

This is like saying: "well, fidel did three good things. Of course I am not going to mention the million bad things he has done or I will mention them very slightly. That would ruin the illusion" "I want people to believe only good things from fidel. The fact that he has killed, tortured, deported, murdered, imprisoned many people, no need to mention."

Fantastic, Cuba was one of the most prosperous countries for those with ties to Batista or the mafia. In that case, most of the Cuban people had ties to Batista and the mafia. I didn't know that !
Most people were against that ? Who told you that ?

WE ARE DOING BETTER THAN MOST OTHER CARIBBEAN COUNTRIES ?

Wait, let me catch my breath. I am choking

Ah, you are speaking from what you have seen and people you have talked to and you have read a lot on the subject.

I assume, then, following that reasoning, that after watching many, and talking to people and reading a lot about the subject you consider yourself qualified to perform a surgery.

I would not want to be the patient if you think that what you say makes you an expert. Whom did you talk to ?
The last speech in the CDR by a member of the party ?

What you say is like the political speeches we had to tolerate in the University and other places. Congratulations !
You really learned the lesson well

And you say that your family is from a comunist country. Indeed ! It fits !

You really are from a comunist country

Joker
lies, suffering, communism.

is he still alive??

physician
As we say in Cuba:
1 - poverty
2- hunger
3 - terror

Before fidel, Cuba was one of the most prosperous countries in Latin America. When fidel seized power there were projects to build a chain of hotels in the sea shore to attract tourism.
According to statistics that I could see personally, Cuba was one of the most developed countries in America.

Now, we have fallen to one of the last, last

Oh, the experts in Cuba. I wonder where they get their information.

Cuba is NOT the only country with good free health care. A friend of mine from Peru told me that in Peru medical attention was also free ( no comunism )

Education ? To continue studying after elementary you must declare your eternal devotion to fidel kastro ( and practice it, of course ).
Otherwise, no education for you, vile traitor, enemy agent.

You will go to work in the cemetery, or taking care of crocodiles, or in construction

I would like to ask a couple of questions:

Are you Cuban ? If you are not, please, it would be too much to ask to mind your own business ?

What do you know about Cuba and the Cubans ?

He brought:
1) He brought a nice summer outfit, I think it was along the lines of a safari suit. Also, He brought his Speedos. And a nice evening gown.
2) Domestic transport. He brought a lovely collection of American vintage cars and trucks, colour matched to his safari suit.
3) He also brought his pet chimp, Bubbles.

Hope that helps!

1. Literacy/Education
2. Health Care
3. On the whole more prosperity

Although Cuba does have its issues, IF YOU LOOK AT THE PURE STATISTICS, Cuba is doing much better than most other Caribbean countries. The whole issue is the fact that PEOPLE GET LITTLE TO NO CHOICE IN THEIR LIVES, and get stuck, happens in every communist country. In terms of basic life needs though, communism isn't always bad. FREEDOM IS WHERE COMMUNISM IS LACKING.

Wow I'm probably going to get a lot of thumbs down for this.

Edit - I never said Cuba was the only country with good health free care but it is one of the things fidel has done, and the health care is advanced (I use lots of cuban made medicines).

I said that there's no freedom in cuba/communism, that is clear, why else would so many people risk their lives to get out? But despite the freedom issue, the education system in Cuba is amazing, and better than its caribbean counterparts.

I never said there weren't problems, theres huge problems, but I said if you look at stats they're doing better than most other caribbean countries.

Edit 2 - the question was "Three changes Fidel brought to Cuba" not "Name 10 ways Fidel f**ked Cuba up" To bring something implies a positive note, I was answering the question...

No, i'm not Cuban, but that means I'm not allowed to have an opinion? Do you not have opinions on other countries? If someone asked three changes Bush brought to america, is that not a question you can answer? Name three good things Trujillo did? Can't you express views on Stalin, Hitler, Mao, Chevez, Ghandi, or any other leader, without having lived under their rule?

I think if you experience a culture, talk to people, read on a subject, yes you can express an opinion on it. You can't related expressing an opinion to performing surgery.

And i'll stick by my answer, medical system, education, and when I say prosperity I mean meeting basic needs. I'm not talking about personal liberty and rights, I'm talking about food, health care etc.

And yes I know most Cubans would be better off in other countries, that's because they're educated! You talk about how if you don't express your love for fidel how you'll be stuck in a life of manual labour.......what do you think people in Haiti, Dominican, most other countries in the rest of the world have to do without an education? Except most of them don't have any opportunity to get a better education.

Edit 3. Once again I will say that asking "what three changes that fidel brought to cuba" implies 3 positive things, at least that was my interpretation (e.g. to bring something to the table, bring something to a conversationg etc.). I took his question as 3 good things fidel did, I named three things and also went on about how the main issue with cuba is the lack of any freedom, I dont think that was a bias answer at least not with my interpretation of the question.
And I understand how my comment about ties with batista would be insulting, I'm sorry it was an exaggeration, I took it out, so I would not insult anyone else.

I also felt like I needed to capitalise some words, since people were obviously ignoring them.

Everyone seems to agree with health care and education, and like I said with prosperity I'm talking pure statistics. I have said a lot about the lack of freedom, but that's ignored.

You want to take my answer as a shrine to Fidel thats fine, but it in no way is.

Well he did bring the literacy rate to the second highest in the world. He also has developed a excellent health care for a third world country. He also nationalized all cuba property so to benefit cuba and not USA or Europe.
