What city in Jamaica should I go to?

I am planning my honeymoon and I want to go to Jamaica. What cities would you recommend for nice beaches and rest and relaxation?

While on your honeymoon you will spend the great majority of your time at your resort. When deciding where to stay in Jamaica first choose a resort that suits you. The city doesn't matter nearly as much as the resort does. Decide what it is you want in a resort. You mentioned relaxation as a priority and many resorts offer that. Some others work hard to make your stay fun and others make romance a priority. Some resorts cater to children while others do not allow children. Some of those limit the age to 14 and some go up to 18.

When you have made the decisions as to what you want in your resort then go to TripAdvisor.com and you can research every resort in Jamaica. You can read the resort amenities, read dozens of trip reports written by previous travelers, view "candid traveler photos" that some of them posted, and ask questions in the "forums" section (and get much better answers than here). You can also find out what other attractions the area offers, and more. It is a great site for researching a honeymoon. It will help make a "no surprises" trip. Have a great honeymoon!

There are countless places in Jamaica that you can visit. In terms of Cities you can choose Kingston or Montego Bay.

In Kingston you may want to
- visit the Hope Botanical Gardens, Jamaica's largest botanical garden.

- Hiking in the Blue Mountains

- New Kingston hip strip and Clubs if you are a party person

- Lime Clay, a glorious sun spot off Kingston's shore

In Montego Bay, where I live you can visit

- perfect white-sand beaches with aqua waters

- Doctors cave beach

Here is a link that should guide you to selecting an Hotel that best suits you :http://honeymoons.about.com/od/jamaicaallincl/Jamaica_AllInclusives.htm

I Know you will have lots of fun.

Negril is very laid back and a nice area. Try there, and Ocho Rios is also said to be nice. Montego Bay is essentially pure tourists. The capital of Jamaica is Kingston, and is on the southern part of the island. I have heard that there has been a crime problem there, so I would avoid Kingston unless you have to go the US Embassy for an emergency or to get a flight out of the country if Montego Bay's airport closes for whatever reason.

By the way don't eat the Jamaican Ackee. It's one of their fruits down there, and people have gotten extremely ill from it. It causes a vomiting sickness in some.

There are two cities, Montego Bay and Kingston. There are other small towns though. Montego Bay is refered to as the "Tourist Capital". But, if you are thinking beaches rest and relaxation, go to the town of Negril.

shasha
I think no matter where you go you will LOVE it I don't agree that it is unsafe for tourists there are those who benefit from saying that ,you need to be careful no matter where you travel and yes there are some places that you should not venture alone but mostly go and shop the markets.eat.If you have good sense and an open mind, soak up the culture.

Im staying at a Sandal resort on ochio rios! I heard its really nice there! I also heard that Negril is really nice to!
Im staying at Dunns river resort! Im getting married there!

Good Luck on everything!
Congrats!!

parishaanta
Negril is a great spot for beautiful beaches, great music and food, sunsets and even cliff diving...not as scary as it sounds.

Treasure beach is also a fantastic place well known for the very friendly people and quietness, though the beaches there have not quite recovered from the last hurricanes 2 years ago. I have property there so feel free to email me for more information, though www.treasurebeach.net is a good place to start for info on the area.

Stay out of Jamaica's major cities, such as Kingston, I would recommend an all inclusive resort such as Sandals, they have them in Montego Bay, Ochos Rios, and Negril, my favorite is Negril by far, the beach is the best and the sunsets are magnificent!

Give Blood
Stock up on tourist brochures so you can find a resort that fits your needs. Do not plan on leaving the resort grounds. It is very unsafe for tourists.

if you want adventure then you will have to venture beyong the hotel enclaves. traveling throughout jamaica is not for the faint at heart, especially when you hear all the alarming stuff that takes place no where else in the world.

If you know someone there who can help you around and can let youy see the sights. it will also be a much more rewarding experience. If you want to experience Jamaica you have to leave the resorts. if you want to experience a resort you can go anywhere for that; dont even have to leave your home country.

so for beaches. jamaicais surrounded by beaches. It depends on what is it that you are looking for.

rest and relaxaion/ seclusion- port land, st. thomas and a little island off mainland jamaica called lime cay.

popular beaches- negril, oco rios, montego bay, but you will have plenty of company.

For ultra seclusion- St elizabeth ans west moreland.

You are less likely to be heckled beyond the main resort towns.

if you have friends you can go hiking and descover your own swimming holes, most beaches in jamaica are public domains so you will not be prosecuted for trespassing.

there are many waterfalls that are inland, which you will enjoy much more than dunns river falls, i do i like seclusion.

from a true jamaican. if you need more assistance feel free to add me to your list and i will advice you.

As in any country, use street smarts, I am currently in the Usa and I dont just go into a community. Do your research, unless you are with a native or in a group.
