What currency is most widely accepted in the Dominican Republic, Canadian or U.S?

US currency is accepted more than any other currency all over the world, although many places in the DR do accept Canadian bills and travellers cheques. If you want to be sure that your cash will be accepted, get it converted to DR pesos - most airports have an exchange counter for this.

I just returned from DR and found that in bargaining in the local markets the US dollar gets you more - be aware of the exchange rate every day - this will help in the bargaining. I also found that when bargaining - ask how much - then cut that more than in half and start from there. Walking away will get you your price - if reasonable. Also if you get some MamaWana - make sure you buy a bottle of rum to add to it - the stick formin a bottle can not be brought in unless saturated with rum.
Good luck and have fun!

US dollars. accepted in most places

The US dollar is the most widely accepted currency. When I visited Dominican Republic, there was a shopping center in Higuey where I paid with US dollars and they gave me the change in Dominican pesos because that was their "policy". Even though they accept dollars, next time I will exchange a small amount to Dominican pesos. (you can exchange your currency at your hotel)

I´m a tour operator in the Dominican Republic, the US Dollar and the Canadian dollar can be changed in most of the places, but never in airports or street! they will give you bad
rates! Where do you go? Let me know, Thanks guys!
