What currency should I take with me to the Dominican Republic?

I have been advised to take US dollers, but also been told there is a limit of how much you can bring in to the country, and does any one know how much you pay to enter/leave the country?

Hi !,
If I can advise you is just take some US currency (for visa at arrival and by departure = in total 30 US Dollars) For the rest just use your card at
a ATH (cashier) to change when you are in need of currency (local is the Pesos = 35 Pesos for 1 Dollar US) This way you don't loose much on exchange rates.
I hope this helped and discover this country!

Dominican Pesos. If you take dollars and pay in dollars you get change in pesos and it all becomes really confusing. $10 dollars to get in and $20 dollars to get out- that is the Only dollars you need. There are loads of ATM's in the Dominican just get money as and when you need it. If you are going all inclusive you probably won't need much anyway. The reason they love dollars is they rip you off with the exchange when they give you change in Pesos.

Visa is 10 bux in US cash when you arrive. You can take up to 10k US without declaring it but must declare it on immigration form if you are taking more.

Best way to handle money here is to exchange US Dollars for pesos. Otherwise you will be given bad exchange rates on purchase and your change which will be in pesos as well.

US dollars get a better rate than Euros, Canadian Dollars and Brittish Sterling according to world rates here so US is the way to go if you can.

There is a 20 dollar fee to leave the country and schedualed airlines include it in the fare but charters don't at least last I checked.

I did alot of tipping with U.S. singles and there aren't many U.S. atms.
Bring lots of singles if you plan on tipping

Are u english? If so just take $30 US per person (visa entrance + leaving costs have to be paid in US dollars - they do not accept any other currency) & the rest in stirling. Seriously, the covertion charges are so high it'd be easier to just change it into pesos when you get there.
Plus everytime you pay in US dollars they give you change in pesos anyway so you can never keep track (well obviously you can be its quite difficult).

It makes life alot easier + ur getting more for you're money.

Definately U.S. dollars.....they love them.

You can take US Dollars, they are worth about 35-36 Dominican Pesos. You might be able to pay with US Dollars at some places but no all and is my recomendation to exchange for Pesos.

I'm not sure how much you have to pay for a traveler's Visa to enter the country for I'm certain that is less 30 Dollars but I'm not 100 % sure.

Enjoy your trip

I believe you can legally take in $10,000 Cash.
Any more than that and you have to declare it and have a good reason why.
If you have a bank account it would be easier and safer to go to a bank when you are there.
Then it doesn't matter how much you need.
