Good ol' American dollar's seem to be the currency of choice in the Dominican Republic. The prices in stores, gift shops, excursions, vendors, etc., are all given in U. S. dollars. |
|

^^Smile^^
|
US Dollars, Canadians Dollars, Euro, British pound, Swiss francs.
these are the exchange rates by today.
USD$1.00=RD$33.94 Dominican pesos
CAD$1.00=RD$33.13 ""
GBPÂŁ1.00=RD$64.25 " "
EUR€1.00=RD$48.20 " "
CHF$1.00=RD$29.89 " "
Whichever is more convenience to you or depends on what do you have.
PS. US Dollars is widely accepted .(but is better to change any currency into pesos and know it value)
Good luck!!! |

If you are just planning to stay around your resort, dollars will be your best bet. Make sure to bring lots of $1 bills as they are usefull for tips at dinner or for the cleaning service. You can also buy almost all your other souvineers and stuff in dollars as well. Yes, they might try to cheat you on the exchange, but if the item isn't worth the price to you in dollars (you know what a dollar is worth to you), it probably isn't worth it in pesos either. We found that we could get pesos from the cash machine at our hotel if we needed them and we could even pay with euros with some vendors.
if you decide to use a credit card, be sure to check your statements when you return home. there have been stories of people who get charged for a purchase more than once. |

Smile already given you the right answer. The other way is to
carry few "cash" money (never change money in/on the street)
and to use cash redraw with your card (visa,....) there you will have a more secure way to controle your expenses.
Anyway have a nice holiday! |

U.S. cash in low denomination, for bigger items use a credit card |

Bring US dollars and change them for Pesos. NEVER use Dollars to purchase because they screw you on the exchange rate and they also screw you on the change at a bad rate also.
DO NOT use credit cards because there is a lot of fraud here. Even at ATM Machines people have problems with fraud.
I have lived here for 8 years and believe this is the best advice you are going to get. |

Well they use pesos but you can bring your US dollars and exchange it most places accept US dollars anyway. |

Bring US dollars. It goes farther and is preferred. Just make sure you bring enough small bills. Some places may not have US currency to change for large bills and try to give you pesos. Pesos do not go far. |

Smart travelers will have pesos, know their currency exchange rate, AND speak enough spanish to know if you are getting the right price or the tourist price. Just remember, RESPECT goes a long way whenever you are away from home. |
