Ok. I can tell you exactly what people wear. I am from the US & I have family from PR. So being an outsider looking in, its better to tell you, b/c someone who lives there says they wear what everyone else wears. Also no the do not dress like Miami that much. Miami men wear lots of Guayabera's (cuban button shirts) & they do not wear that much in PR. & women in Miami wear much less clothing.
Ok so in PR it is hot all year so people dress to stay cool, summer clothes, you know. Girls like to look nice. More than americans. They dress up more on a regular basis. They wear alot of tight fitting clothing. But they do cover up more than some americans. Most girls will dress sexy but not wear mini skirts & belly shirts unless at the beach. Women like to wear anything in style & they like the belt to match their shoes. The shirt & purse dont have to match. They like jewelery & having their hair & nails & makeup done, etc.
In general puertoriquenos wear jeans & tops(women) or t-sirts (men). Also people that work in offices dress in business attire. Men wear basketball apparel sometimes b/c its a big sport in PR also. Like Nike shorts & basketball sneakers etc. In the younger guys(teens etc) they have 2 big styles. 1 is a surfer look. They might wear a quicksilver t-sirt w/ a shell necklace & flipflops (called choncletas). & then there is a more hiphop style too (b/c of the huge reggaeton scene now). Where they wear baggier clothes & hiphop brands like rocawear & sneakers even jamiacan bracelets & bob marley shirts. Of course there are more styles. like rocker, etc. but not as popular. & older women wear some cotton grandma nightgowns for bed & sometimes cleaning the house, lol. |

Well the climate is always tropical, so people basically wear stuff that keeps them cool. Some parts of PR is acutally very stylish. Shorts, shirts basically its kinda like miami clothes. At work, they wear clothes that are supposed to be worn for work but at night people like to dress up and look very stylish! Women in PR do like to wear stuff that is stylish and try to look sexy and men dont need help to look sexy-they already are! lol =] |

They wear the same type of clothing you would wear in a tropical climate during the day. All the women that go to business dress very corporate. Suits and dresses. At night everyone gets very dressed up when they go to clubs or hotel functions. They dress to "the nines". Very impressive.
Hope that helps. |

Young people usually go out in jeans and T-shirt, it's too hot to have anything else. Maybe a mini skirt or shorts light clothing. |

Clothing, what else do you think?
We are in the tropic so expect clothing suitable for hot tropical weather. When raining expect umbrellas.
Shirts, pants, skirts, blouses, dresses, polo, denim, T shirts, socks, shoes, sandals, tennis shoes, glasses, sunglasses, wrist clocks, jewlery. Rappers use blin, blin. No need for coats or warm clothing.
Executives, lawyers, bankers, others wear business suits and ties. Swimmers and surfers use swinsuits. Basketball players use basketball uniforms.
Same as the people of Miami, Florida.
No multicolored beach shirts that stereotypes Hollywood put to characters in tropical areas in the movies, no one uses those. |

The typical clothing of yesteryear is not used no more in the everyday life. But it is used on special events such as the Fiestas Patronales or Patron Saint Festivals. The typical clothes for the woman were the long white skirts, white lace blouses with short puffed sleeves with the tips of the shoulders showing, and red scarves or pañuelos around the head. The men wore the white pants, black belts, white shirts and the white brimmed hats with the black bands around the cup of the hat.
Today, things have changed according to social level, economic level and ages.
Social Level:
These are the ones well of course whom are at the top due to their fame, their influences with the high society. The woman will wear, slack suits, high heeled sandles, cotton or silk blouses and yes brand named bags and accessories.Along with slack suits that do consist of 2 or 3 pieces, there are skirt suits, and of course stiff cottond 2 piece dresses.
The men will wear shirts, ties, and suits. The shoes and accessories are of course of brand names.
In the economical levels. Well, those who are on a nice payroll are in the upper level of society and do wear the suits. The teens of the upper leve will hear designer slacks, shirts, blouses and will keep up with the changing trends of fashion including the accessories. But on the middle economic level, of course suits and designer clothes are minimum, but at this middle class level, the nice clothes are present. Many who work in offices will suits they buy and are versatile for each day of the week, but in many cases banks, governemtal offices, and financial offices do provide for the employees with uniforms. All the employee has to do is buy the shoes that are appropriate for the job.
In the lower economic level, the men will wear nice slacks and polos, the woman will wear nice skirts, blouses and pants. The teens will wear jeans such as Wrangler, Old Navy and such. The type of shoes for the teens is sneakers, sandles and the new Crocks. For the olders on up sandles, loafers, low closed shoes and even in some cases slippers.
The elderly will stick to wearing simple clothes but nice, clean, neat and ironed. The elderly woman in many cases do wear slacks and nice blouses, the men will wear some nice shorts to the knees or long trousers. The traditional shirts were the famous Guayaberas which is a long or short sleeved shirt with two pockets on both breasted sides of the shirt. Not many wear them today, but still they can be bought and of course many men will wear the brimmed hats.
Some brands of accessories and clothes used a lot here are:
All the store brands
Wrangler
Levis
Carolina Herrera
Guicci
ThomMcAnn
Payless
Nike
Rebuk
These are just a few to mention. The teens today like hip hop, regeaton and rap and the dress with the baggy jeans, t-shirts with the NY logo, gold and/or silve chanes with large medallions of NY logos and the caps of NY logos.
Since Puerto Rico is year round summer, then for the younger set, jeans, t-shirts, sandles and sneakers are in. The girls like to wear thin strap tanks with jeans and sandles with heals. College students use jeans, t's and tanks with sandles, Crocks and sneakers.
High fashion is as I have said for those who are in the upper economical level and high society who can afford to spend big time money for just a pair of socks. I have known some woman who spend just for a one day outdoor activitiy $89 for a pair of sneakers for one time use.
Some men will take up offers of the mens clothing stores that will put up specials where you can get for example 2 full suits for under $400 including handkerchiefs, socks and ties included. This is for those in the office and always on the go to meetings. Woman will take up the offers at Sears, Macy's, and Penneys when the available and buy dresses that do range from $200 and up for a one time event or activity.
Sweaters, jackets, and light coats are saved for to use in the office where the air conditioners are on high due to the computers. A few weeks ago, I saw a group of 6 young men about late teens early 20's on the street and it was like 95 out in temperature and one had on a sweater with hood and long sleeves.
I basiclly wear jeans, blouses or t's, low shoes. My husband due to his office job wears dress slacks, polos or shirts and black shoes. There the woman wear dress slacks, blouses and heeled sandles. Some areas have established uniforms. This consists of the blouse/shirt of a certain color choosen by vote of employees, and emblam or logo on the left breast of the shirt and black pants/slacks with black dress shoes.
Basically the dress here is like the states in the summer, but of course some will wear hot clothes in the summer such as a 3 piece suit.
I hope this helped out a bit. |

Many People from Puerto Rico make their clothes from animal skins and fur. Tanned cow hide, called cowskin, is one of the most common clothing materials throughout the island. We also use , mosgose fur, and bird feathers. Some tribes of the Northwest Coast of Puerto Rico make cloth of bark and reeds. And some and some Caribbean tribes wove beautiful cotton and woolen cloth.
Puertoricans of the South often wear no clothing at all. In many tribes, men wear only a breechcloth, a narrow band of cloth that passes between the legs and loops over the front and rear of a belt. Women wear simple aprons or skirts. Some wear sandals or moccasins to protect their feet if not they are barefoot.
What kind of a question is this? |
