Barbadian is proper and Bajan is slang.

For example, the passport would say the nationality is Barbadian, not Bajan.

A Bajan!

Highly Favoured
We are Barbadians (the official name for us) whether or not it is a man or woman. Alternatively, we are also called Bajans. Incidentally, the language we speak is also called Bajan. So, we are Bajans speaking Bajan. Have a look at this excerpt below.

Barbados is a very beautiful island, with lots of art, activities, night life, music, history and some of the best restaurants to be found anywhere. But what makes Barbados even more special, and the reason why so many visitors keep returning to the island year after year, is the people. Barbadians, called Bajans, are warm and friendly souls, always ready to greet you with a sincere smile. Barbadians make you feel welcome and special, in this lovely Caribbean Island. You will feel its your home and will want to come back again and again to Barbados: A unique Caribbean paradise, surprisingly sophisticated, friendly, fun and always Naturally Charming!

Barbadian (proper)
Bajan (slang)

vybes_souljah
A person from Barbados is officially a Barbadian (Bar-Bay-dian) the slang name is Bajan.
Bajan is spelled like the last spoken syllable of the word Barbadian when said in the local accent. E.g. Bar-"bajan".

When Barbados was first-first colonised the Irish which were sentenced to be sent to the island was called to be "Barbadosed". That last term is archaic not really used anymore.
