What do you think about the crime rate in Jamaica?

Besides the fact that is crazy, out of control high, I don't really think about it. There is so much crime in the United States and it hits so close to home sometimes, it gets tough to think about crime in other countries. Really, the whole world is in need of a full overhaul as far as protection/law enforcement is concerned. There are hardly any countries where crime is really not a problem at all.

There is crime everywhere here and there. Just don't worry and stay out of those areas.

ive seen people on here talking about how bad it is there. it depends on where u go because there are some bad areas just like every other country. when i go there to visit my family i dont worry about it because i dont go to those areas. people think its so horrible there and its not. i feel just as safe there as i do here.

Pebbles
it is not that different from the rest of the world.

Lisa M.
I don't like to think about it. It makes me sad.

Oh my god,I never even think about it,because in right here in Miami every day.

Its not pretty at all, saddening at times. The question is what would be the most effective way of dealing with it, barring anymore imports of outside criminologist and cops etc

terrible! There should be more opportunities open to them without the aid of money. No jobs, no income, no money, no school.........

I have realized that the crime statistics are actually just as high as in the US. In Jamaica, it has ALOT to do with the unemployment...which is tremendous (more than 11%)!and corruption by those involved in politics and legal arena-police--it's not all of them , but enough.

As a tourist though--just know where not to go.
If sellers ask you to buy something, learn to say no. Do not give a full eye contact, friendly and open--"I just need a little persuausion" no thank you--if you do that you are a target for any one selling anything.
