The Dominican Republic is a beautiful country dirtied by Dominicans with no respect for what they have. they will dump their garbage right in front of their homes. Not unusual to see a whole garbage bag of crap come flying out a car window.
If you are a tourist the middle and upper class want nothing to do with you while the poor look at you as a walking ATM. Dominicans will only tell you what they think you want to hear and never the truth even if the truth is easier and non offensive.
If you are a person from another country and get rear ended by a motorcycle and the driver has no license, no insurance completely in the wrong the police and the judges will make you pay. The polititians are so corrupt they make a cottage industry out of their jobs so half the children want to become a baseball player and the other half a polititian so they can make more money.
Dominicans drive like they are completely uncivilized and have no respect for others. Brights are the rule of the nite and that is if they have lights in their cars or motorcycles. Some nights half don't have any lights.
They use French Law so you are guilty till proven innocent. Dominicans blame everything on the other guy and are never to blame for anything.
Dominicans have no respect for lines in stores, counters or anywhere and will just go right in front of you every time.
They will park their motorcycles one inch from your car so you can back into them and they will try to soak you for a new motorcycle.
Everybody thinks they have found the DDD which stands for "Definately different Dominican" but I have found that they are very few and far between.
If they arrested every Dominican for doing something illegal there would be no one left to turn off the lights but don't worry the blackouts which happen daily would take care of that.
The country itself is beautiful with different ecosystems which run from desert to snow on mountain tops as the highest moutain in the caribbean is in the DR.
Hey the country is beautiful.
Is there anything I said you don't agree with? |

I loved it, I am American, white and stayed there for almost 3 years total. I lived in Moca and the capital. The difference in rich and poor is rather dramatic but that's in a lot of places. It is hot though and you have to live near the beach or mountains to get cool. The food is good and not expensive, Sancocho, carne guisada,Pollo al carbon etc. etc..The music is great, merengue, bachata and the people were great! a fun place to live! |

My best ever holiday was there :D
I will never forget it... partially because of the people I made friends with there but also because of the friendliness, cleanliness and beauty of the country...
Whilst in Puerto Plato we explored the beautiful plazas and beaches. We went banana-boating, reef exploring, to a water park, a horse-riding adventure where we went through river, sugar cane fields etc and endured a tropical downpour! The weather was gorgeous apart from a thunder storm that was also pretty impressive to watch
What do you like about it? |

I like D.R. a lot. Im mixed with Black and dominican so i went for the first time last summer and its fun. I expected to much because i thought it would be a lot like Puerto Rico, i been there also, but its not. Maybe because PR is like another state of the U.S., but a lot of the Dominicans was rude and they knew who was a tourist and who wasn't, i feel bad for the little kids because they would ask for money to get some food, but if you give one kid money, u have to give a group of kids money. but overall, the scenery was beautiful and i would go back, but PR is the best that i seen so far! |

I have been to the Dominican Republic various times and must say, I love the place!
Some of the best moments of my life have been spent in the DR and I miss it so much. Theres things there I could never do in England, it is so so beautiful!!
My favourite memory of the DR is horse riding - like the first answerer we went through sugar cane fields (something I have never experienced, it tastes so nice). Everythings just so so different to here in England. I will definitely return one day and hope to live there too!!
The people are so happy and friendly, the beaches are breath taking, the views are amazing!! It is paradise and I love it!! A lot of people leave bad stories on here about the DR but the truth is if you stand back from the luxary resorts and 5* service and go up into the hills on a horse, eating sugar cane and stopping to eat traditional DR food in family run bars with SUPERB views - its a million miles away from what England will ever be............PARADISE. |
