What gifts can I give someone in California who greatly misses their Jamaican homeland?

I'm in Jamaica for a few days and want to surprise a home-sick Jamaican with a few gifts from their country. I'm not sure what would be appropriate. Do you have any suggestions?

Thanks in advance :).

Its Very Hot In Jamaica
It depends on the age of the person. The jewellery i think is a bad idea for anyone over 18. Clothing is fun for teenagers and young adults. We have many Tshirt lines here (Cooyah Binghi, Yuzimi to name a few). A beach towel (with the flag or the cricket team) is a good idea too.

I have a cousin that needs cocoa butter for moisturizing.

However you can never go worng with food. Tambarind balls, sugar cane, peanut cake, cocunut cake, bread or potato pudding, seasoning, frozen ackee (u'd have to have someone boil it for you), cocoa, coffee, cocunut milk, roasted breadfruit, milk powder, bun, harddough bread, tinned cheese frozen patties u can buy those in the departure lounge and carry in your hand luggage. U.S. customs doesnt allow mangoes IF they find it.

I think I have seen my mom do fish and get away with it and the mangoes.

That is so thoughtful of you. authentic Jamaican stuff always reminds the person of home.

Sugar cane, Mangos, ginger tea, mint tea, Jamaican shows on TV that are taped, cold ting, and the latest dancehall music. Food is a big part of the Jamaican lifestyle. We are a simple people not very analytical but very traditional.

Buy them an ackee tree off the internet. Jamaicans love to eat it with fish. Or a fruit tree like Mangoes or Lychee. And some Ting and Bigga sodas, Irish Moss and Blue Mountain Cofee as well while you're at it :) Yummy look at the links below to find this stuff.

what you should get is like a bracelet. It is kind of made of string and it has the colors of their flag and they will love it

You could get them a picture of some kind of jamaica...a T Shirt with jamaica on it...CD's of jamaican music...DVD'S or Video cassette with some jamaican movies or shows...I guess any thing you bring back for them i think they would appreciate it...it's the thought that counts.

There are always people selling jewelery. And it doesn't have to be expensive you can just get them something made of beads, that maybe has a personal trinket that pertains to them....to let them know you put some though into the gift.
