What hotel is best to stay in San Juan Puerto Rico?

We wanna be at or near the beach, near the nitelife of course , possibly have a hotel that has a shuttle from the air port.

But most important we want to be in the MAIN ACTIVITY AREA
help ?!?!

Lost. at. Sea.
My recommendation is the Caribe Hilton. Is in Puerta de Tierra close to the Old San Juan and the Condado , this areas are the main activities in San Juan. The Hotel has spectacular views to the ocean and the city, a private beach (probably the only in the Island), nice pools and bars and believe me a small castle, the San Geronimo.
Shuttles and taxis stop all the time in the hotel. You can also stay in the Isla Verde area, very close to the airport, with a lot of hotels to choose with beach front.

If you want to be near the beach and nightlife you should check out the hotels in the Isla Verde and Condado Areas:
Marriott
Ritz
Intercontinental
Condado Plaza (note some areas are being refurbished).
Water Club

If you want top of the range you should look into El Conquistador - BUT this is about 60mins from San Juan so you will not be near the major nightlife

for more ideas on what to do when you are here, see this:

All the most important hotels in PR have airport shuttles. The top of all is the Ritz Carlton, is in Isla Verde and one night cost you around $395.00 per night plus taxes. Near is El San Juan Hotel & Casino, one cost around $289.00 per night plus taxes (check first because the charge is per person per night in the same room). If you what one out of San Juan you most choose El Conquistador Hotel, Casino & Spa, this hotel have a private island (beach) and is beautiful, the cost around $290 to $305. You can check in their web pages, the San Juan and El Conquistador are part of the Whydham family. Other excellent hotels are Caribe Hilton and the Water Club (this is a boutique hotel). So good luck searching for you hotel.

El Gato

Isla Verde is very noisy with the planes overhead...and i mean VERY noisy. Stay at El Convento in Old San Juan...YOu will love Old San Juan - you dont need a car - you just walk the old cobblestone streets. Great food. And the hotel is an old convent - fantastic service and so beautiful. And very resonable for what you get. They have a deal with the Marriott Courtyard on Isla Verde - so you can take a cab over there and enjoy that property and their beach and pool and casino and anything else on the property. So you get the best of both worlds....I suggest you stay at Old San Juan and take a side trip to Culebra...NOW THATS A BEACH! You can store your luggage there till you get back....just take a suit and an outfit or two. You can take a cab or fly to Fajardo then take a ferry for a couple of buck to Culebra....beautiful natural surroundings...undeveloped beaches and properties that mix with nature...I have never been to a place like it. You will want to rent a jeep from Jerry's jeeps.....

Back to old san juan - i think that is the MAIN activity area...it has it all - charm, food, people, casinos, culture, beauty.....go for it.
