Well, in 1959 fidel seized power and was received as a hero. He declared not to be comunist and promised elections in 18 months.

We are still waiting for the elections and a few years later he declared that he was Marxist and he would always be.

Established a soviet like dictatorship with no tolerance to opposition. Anyone who tried to opposed him ended dead, in jail for who knows how long or deported.
The conditions of the political prisoners are intolerable. That would require a chapter for itself

We have been trying to escape since then. First the wealthy. Later they not wealthy, and finally everybody

There is now an opposition movement that follows the principles of pacific resistance. The "Ladies in White" make pacific protests, but they are bullied and insulted by the comunists. Those that are known opposers are beaten, humiliated, and severely mistreated by comunist mobs

In the economic aspect, we live in extreme poverty because comunism is a failure. It just, doesn't work.
But fidel REFUSES to have any changes. He fears that any changes will cause the fall of the regime.

We will have to wait for what happened to Stalin, enver hoxa, kruschev, etc, etc, disappear from the earth

We are the only comunist regime in America. We cannot complain of anything.
You MUST say ALWAYS that you love fidel, comunism, and the Party, or you will be marked as an enemy of the State, an enemy of the Revolution, and they will throw you in jail for who knows how long, or they will shoot you ( like General Arnaldo Ochoa ) or deport you ( like in the Mariel )

We have the most terrible dictatorship in America. Cuba is a police state where everything that is not forbidden is mandatory ( in just a few words )
fidel has suffered a condition that is kept under extreme secrecy. Only his closest goons know what happened

There have been too many debates going on here regarding things like this...Maybe it might be best to ask this question under the politics section as this is for travel.

As for now, Cuba's condition is rough...4 died in the hurricane and are dealing with severe conditions right now. They don't remember when they've been hit this bad with a hurricane.

So maybe your concern at the moment should be with their hurricane situations...in fact, relief efforts are already in place and measures of protection have taken place ahead of time and distribution of extra food and amenities are also provided for the hurricanes.
