I would say Playa del Carmen in Mexico. Playa Del Carmen is outside Cauncun (by aboout 45 minutes) but is smaller and relaxing.
Even though you are in Mexico you have COMPLETELY CLEAR Caribbean waters. There is great suba diving and good night life. For a totally awesome hotel recommendation I would stay at the Grand Mayan (not to confuse it with the Royal Mayan or Mayan Palace.)
If I could do my honeymoon again (we went to Jamaica)- I would pick the Grand Mayan in Playa Del Carmen. I think it is actually called the "Grand Mayan Riviera Maya". http://www.thegrandmayan.com/riviera/
MAKE SURE TO CHECK OUT THE PHOTO GALARY FROM THE LINK ABOVE
Here are some reviews of the Grand Mayan Riviera Maya:

It is perfect relxing, beautiful, and really would provide the best vacation. |

The carribean and Hawaii are a little overrated. My experience at the Atlantis in the Bahammas was disappointing. The place is too massive, lots of kids running around everywhere, bad service, and you don't really have any other options. My friends and I rented a house in St. Martin's once and that was a blast, but it was the people that made the trip and not necessarily St. Martin's. I stopped in Playa Del Carmen on a cruise, I wouldn't recommend it. The beaches aren't that great, and the place is so seedy with cheap tourists. I won't even considering going to Cancun.
I went to Maui and stayed at the Fairmont Kea Lani. It was a pretty incredible resort. Certainly one of the best I have stayed at, but after staying at the Fairmont in Scottsdale, Cloister at Sea Island, Ritz in Naples, and the Beverly Hills Hotel, I don't think Maui is necessarily worth the flight (although the bicycle tour down the volcano was really cool!)
I've been to a number of places in Floridia. The entire state is pracically worthless. Old people, unintersting buildings, motor homes, families with screaming babies, and too many chain restaurants. Never been to the Carolina's but I refuse to go for this reason. BUT My favorite city for warm weather is Miami Beach. It is one of the few cities where you can stay at a resort with nice accomodations, great service, excellent pools, and a beach, but then have things to do like really good shopping, dining, and nightlife. The scene is awesome. You can't really do that in anyother place. New York, LA, and Vegas have a great cosmopolitan scene, but in terms of vactioning Miami Beach is the best. I travel about twice a year and go to different places everytime, but Miami Beach is the only place I return to (besides New York, D.C.)
You can have a relaxing/sunny stay at a nice resort in a great climate about anywhere, but you are often stuck there. There are also a lot of cool cities with good nightlife, but in Miami Beach you have options; hang out at the pool or beach and get waited on, or walk out the front door for awesome nightlife and dining.
If you are looking for the very best beach in the world, or one that is really good enough to make you go there for the sole purpose of beaches alone, than go to Tarifa in Spain or the Greek Islands.
Warm weather and tropical environments are nice, but I've kind of had my fill of them. Laying out in the sun can get boring, and the fact of the matter is that Northeastern cities have the most things to do and the most culture. I would consider visiting Cleveland, because there are a lot of things to do there (some of the best cultural institutions in the world, and a variety of scenes), and they cost much less, and the city is very easy to get around. It is really nice to do a lot of things, eat at great restaurants, and go to nice bars, and not worry about the cost. It also isn't overrun with tourists, so you don't see many chains or cheap souvenir shops. It has a cool personality. Cleveland is to America like Prague is Europe (if you know what I mean). |

It depends on what you want to do. Some people like to mountain climb, others like to relax on a beach, others like to scuba dive, etc. etc. I suggest you decide what it is you want to do on your vacation and then go from there. |

Machinaw Island, Michigan! It's so totally peaceful. It's on the edge of Lake Huron, just a short ferry's ride out from Machinaw city. There is a little town on the island and a road around the perimeter - about eight miles. No vehicles are alouded on the island. I absolutely love it! |

I would say Florida. I am not sure where you are from, how much you want to spend and if you plan on driving. Florida has beautiful weather all year round. The beaches are great. I would recommend Clearwater, St. Petersburg area. They also have a small town called Homosassa (spell) and you can swim with manatees in a river. You can go to Orlando where there is Disney World and Universal Studios. Or, cruise on over to Tampa and see Busch Gardens or Sea World. You can take day cruises out of Cape Canavarel-they offer dolphin sightings and gambling cruises. Or, go to Daytona Beach if you want more action-or Miami. |
