Its Very Hot In Jamaica
 |
The mosquitoes, a number of trees and plants like the Maiden plum, wild hogs, the limsetone rocks. Also the rain and landslides, the heat but if you are an adventurer then you know this. But it depends on where you plan to go as the conditions, type of flora/fauna vary depending on the type of forest i.e a wet limestone forest or a dry forest. As well as if you are going on a guided tour or with a group of friends unfamiliar with the territory.
If you search www.jamaicayp.com for the Forestry Department they may be able to give you some info or at least point you in the right path. |

I got lost for around 45 minutes in a Jamaican forest (in the Falmouth area on the north coast) and nothing happened to me. |

We spent hours way up in the mountains of Jamaica when we went to Nine Mile...we were with a Jamaican guide and had a fabulous time. We walked through their "plantations" and sampled some things. We also came across numerous Jamaican grapefruit trees (what their yummy soda drink Ting is made out of). Rastafarians were tending to the fields and were very nice and helpful. They showed us around for a while too. We talked politics with them and shared a smoke. A fantastic day it was.
With that being said, I wouldn't have done that without a local being with us....in ANY foreign country, not just Jamaica. |

You really need only to watch out for crocodiles and then only in the wetland areas. Our indigenous snakes are shy and non-venomous. There are a few plants that irritate the skin and of course you should ask local advice before sampling strange fruit and berries.
Other than that, just get a reputable local guide and you'll be fine. Everthing irie. (That's Jamaican for "fine".) |

Bug bites.....not so much dangerous as they are uncomfortable. Some nice ganja tea mixed with other herbs can take care of bug bites if you come upon a bush doctor. Alot of you totally dissed Jamaicans on this question......not cool! Fire burn you............... |

Great answers. I have been to a lot of Caribbean Islands and Jamaica is the only one that hotels and houses for rent all list whether or not they have security. Why are all the resorts really fenced in????? Of course I wouldn't go to Haiti either. But I've been to Jamaica to Negril and had a nice time but I wouldn't go back. The trouble with a lot of Caribbean islands is the unemployment rate is terribly high - 50% range. This causes lots of crime and would anywhere else. |
