Alright let me tell you- Doubles started off as mainly a Saturday Breakfast meal ( one is too small to satisfy, three might do) or sometimes Sunday. 'Like a bat out of hell' it blossomed into a Trinbagonian sub-culture, if you were visiting the Islands you had to have a doubles ( as any Trinbagonian). so with its growth in popularity, vendors started selling them 24hrs, at selected location, usually places with students, after work people,etc. Pretty much you can have it when ever you please.

P.S Doubles is a sandwich made with deep-fried, fluffy 1 1/2 cm thick, semi-sweet 'bread' and a filling of 'Stew/curried' chick peas, but the best part is the different chutneys which are basically relishes, made with coconut,peppers, cucumbers, or anything the vendor fancies, yyyyyuuuuuummmmm! one of the best vendors is 'source' in Curepe!

well doubles is EVERYTHING!! pass by d doubles man any time of d day and TRINI line up...well not since it raise so much dow..... it started up as breakfast then lunch and appetizer i dont know about the dinner part

Usually breakfast...but I cud eat one any time of the day.
I want one soooooooooo bad, but nowhere in Florida selling them. :((

Every Saturday morning I used to buy two doubles for breakfast. But now (since the price is higher) I buy one "triple" for breakfast. Most people I know buy it early in the morning....especially on a morning when they have to go to the market. I guess that's because most people go to the market very early in the morning and don't have time for breakfast before they leave home.

doubles can be eaten at any time of the day, Most people like to eat them in the morning or when liming in the night. it's make of 2 bara with curried channa and any thing else that the vendor have that you will like to put in it. most of us like it with pepper. ( The bara is made with ground split peas, flour and a few other ingredients).

Doubles.... it may have started out as breakfast, however it can be used as breakfast, brunch, lunch, mid afternoon snack, dinner, and mid night snack if you could find a doubles vendor.

Its one of those really tasty dish that will satisfy any appitite any time of the day.

and with the 'condiments' ie mango, anchar, coconut, cucumbers, pepper etc its also a 'healthy' alternative if needed. lol

Boy, leave it up to ah trini to find Trini food anywhere they go eh.lol but doh worry, i learn how to make doubles this week in class....i feel i go have to start selling doubles by the airport - d name on meh purple box go be 'Hot Pepa doubles' .....ah feel it go sell realllllllllll plenty, lol. ah expecting all ah alyuh to come and buy from meh eh.

Doubles started as something to eat for breakfast, but nowadays people does eat it any time of the day really. Since the price of doubles went up, lots of people cut back on the quantity they eat, but a doubles is one of the best food items in Trinidad. Try one if you are ever in the country, you'll definitely buy another.
