What is the average income of a person who lives in Jamaica?

I also need to know what a typical home in Jamaica is like. I'm helping my son with his country report and having trouble finding these two questions. Thanks for the help!

That person 'Herlife' is so damn rude. Y do u keep answering in the Jamaican section when u dont know **** about the economy or the people. Bet u never even been there. Anyway what u earn is dependent on what type of work u do obviously so a persons who works in Burger King in Jamaica will get the same average wage as a person who does the same work in the US. The same goes for other types of work my friends and I are professionals (post graduate) so we make average what a professional in ur country would. I suppose u get the idea. As for what an average house look like then it is the same really depends on if u r in rural or urban Jamaica. THe houses/apartments in the city are the usual 2/3 bedrooms and bathroom, concrete building some have verandahs or porches. If u go to the more affluent areas then it is basically the same materials used to build the houses, except most of these are mansions with 8-10 bedroooms, study, helpers quarters, etc. Conversely, in the rural or poorer areas you will find many houses made from either concrete or boards, but they are usually well maintained by the occupants. Jamaicans really take great pride in their surroundings. In the ghetto or projects as u may call it, there are some shacks with outdoor plumbing, just like u find the the poorer parts of ALL countries. Hope that helped.

I am a Jamaican. Well income varies by job qualification as it is worldwide. However Thar minimum wage in Jamaica is $3,200 per 40 hour week. That's the lease what a baby sitter, householder helper can. Of course the range goes up as per job type, clerical staff can earn from $$28,000 to $40,000.00 per month. and as for professionals, well that's a different ballgame all together. Of course in Jamaica after a 40 hour time weekly overtime is paid, plus on Saturdays id time and half and to work on Sundays you get paid for double time..................

you can google Jamaica Information Services. This will give you a lot of information on jamaica. By the way I think we should all report her life.

Thank you Sherona for your response. I am a Jamaican and live in Jamaica and your response 'HerLife' is disgraceful. Have you actually been to Jamaica?

The rate given for basic pay is correct. But there really isn't an average income overall. It would be probably better if you grouped the average such as average technical income, average professional income, average hospitality sector income, etc. Pay depends on qualification, location and company. It varies greatly. If all that is too difficult, just use the basic pay rate but it is not an average.

There is also no typical home. At the extremes, we have zinc shacks as well as mansions. In-between there are apartment complexes, duplexes, townhouse complexes and bungalows. Our townhouse complexes, particularly in Kingston, are unique in the Region as they are the most extensive housing type, and represent a compromise between an apartment and a bungalow (single family dwelling).

For current information, not tourism info, on Jamaica, you can check www.go-jamaica.com

Good Luck on the report
