Grand Cayman Island, the main one. There are wonderful vacation homes to rent on the other side of the island by Rum Point Beach. This is where you want to be. Away from all the touristy areas at Georgetown, but close to a beach and some amenities. It is wonderful. One of the best vacations I've ever been on. The people are so friendly, the food is wonderful and the drinks are to die for. |

I agree with all the places Robert mentioned in his answer but we call the type of rock formations in Hell Ironshore.
Also, don't be suprised if you visit Pedro St. James Castle...It's not actually a Castle but more like an old two-story house.
Seven Mile Beach is VERY touristy and is conveniently located to the airport, shopping and business district on West End.
Hell and the Turtle Farm are located north of Seven Mile Beach and only a 10-15 minute drive.
The Queen's Botanic Park is on Frank Sound Road which disects Grand Cayman and runs from Queens Highway on South Side in a north-northeasterly direction to Grand Cayman's North Side District. If you prefer less rat race and more beauty along with great service at restaurants, dive operations, etc. try the Districts of East End & North Side. There is a great resort in East End called the Reef Resort. It is the only all beach front resort in all of Cayman. You can call @ 1-345-947-3100 or check out their website:www.thereef.com.ky .If you SCUBA dive, or would like to try it, there is a really great dive operation just a couple miles down to road called Ocean Frontiers where you can get special pricing if you are staying at the reef. They also will let you try if for FREE in one of the resort pools. Speak with Consierge Ethel Forbes-Dral or Linda Locke for more activities or restaurant recommendations that will suit your personal taste. Also, not far from there is Rum Point; a great place to spend a day lounging in the sun or under a palm tree with a frozen drink, ride a wave runner, snorkel or take a ferry ride across the beautiful North Sound to West End and back. They also serve GREAT fish n chips amond may other menu items. Three minutes from there is Kai Bo Yahgt Club...Don't be intimidated...It is very casual and you may eat/drink there in your beach attire and everyone is very friendly.
Upon arrival I recommend that you rent a car. They are very reasonable. At the rental agency(next to the airport) you will be required to purchase a driving permit for around $8.00 that will be good for the duration of your visit. DON'T FORGET TO DRIVE ON THE LEFTHAND SIDE OF THE ROAD.
If you enjoy or would like to learn to surf go to Grand Harbour Shopping Centre.(nice liquor store and large Grocery there) Behind the shopping centre is a man-made surfing and skateboarding park. Ask anyone how to get there. It's very easy to find and you would actually pass it on your way to the resort.
If you do decide to stay on that end of the island, (about a 45 minute drive from the airport) once there, across the road from the resort is a small shopping centre complete with grocery store casual/beachwear shop, a Yoga studio, etc..
Enjoy. And remember, 'No Worries Mon!'

Really depends on what you are after.
The top tourist attractions in Cayman are:
Stingray City & Stingray City Sandbar - (where you can stroke 'tame' sothern stingrays) - snorkel (or dive) with them at Stingray City or stand in waist deep water at the sandbar. Visit on a day when no cruise ships are in.
Hell: overrated black limestone outcrops. You can see similar on other parts of the island. However you can get postcards with a Hell postmark
Turtle Farm - only commercial turtle farm in the world.
Pedro St. James Castle - birthplace of democracy in Cayman
Botannic Park - home to some endangered species including hte Cayman Blue Iguana
Seven Mile Beach - beautiful sand
Cayman is also one of the top diving destinations in the world - do a one-day restort course to see if you like it!

I'd suggest go swim with the sting rays (yes, it's okay, just don't touch under them so they don't sting you) and buy your snorkel equipment here, since snorkeling is the best thing going on the islands. Plus it's free. And please, don't step on the coral so the fish stay and you don't ruin their food supply. :)
Have fun! |
