I Dont know where you are but i use
1. Instant Messenger to chat with my friends and family for free.
2. Skype might also be a viable option or
3. There are phone cards that can call jamaica. some card cost 2 dollars and can give u hours of talking on a land line, or 30 minutes on a cell phone. Like i said i dunno where you are but i live i new york city and there are tons of calling cards here.
4. They also have some "Megaphones" in Jamaica that the calls are free. i think the person in jamaica pays 1 flat rate. that might be an option th have them call you.
5. There are also phone plans that u pay 1 flat rate and you talk all month.......my friend calls me from jamaica on that one........Cable and Wireless has that plan............i cant remember any other right now. Ask your party about these.

All the cellphone providers have a plan for calls to the USa from Jamaica. You could have the person (in Jamaica) gettign on of the plans and call you....the plans are $1200 (1000 + GCT) per month, this translate to US$17.
I am in Jamaica, I use the MiPhone plan. I pay J$999 + GCT and it gives me 1,000 minutes to the US (land and Cell), Canada (land and Cell) and UK (Landline only).
Cable and Wireless as well as Digicel have similar plans.
