The currency is the dominican peso. The best places to get american money changed is at a bank or at what is called a casa de cambio they are profesional money changers. DO NOT change money from anybody on the road or in a parking lot. They WILL rip you off. If you take travellers checks the only places to change them are banks. Most places will only take pesos so make sure to change enough for the duration of your stay.

It's Pesos....But they also take American money.....word of advice don't exchange any money for Pesos at ur hotel they don't give u the best rate ask ur Travel Rep! And u don't really need Pesos cause they all take American money and it's mych easier to make deals with American money! HAVE FUN!
